Remaking “Why we should not stop at just remaking Metal Gear Solid”
Editorial by Ravi Singh, Posted on April 1, 2021
A couple of years ago we published “Why we should not stop at just remaking Metal Gear Solid” by Saul Ed Sinek. As fans debated on wither or not the 1998 PlayStation classic, Metal Gear Solid should be remade (again, as it was already remade in 2003 as The Twin Snakes) Sinek made the argument that not only should Metal Gear Solid be remade (again), so too should its sequels. And that once Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is remade, we start the cycle with yet another remake of Metal Gear Solid.
This model of just remaking everything again and again could then be adapted to other media, such as film and music, and even actual artists themselves.
This year, we remade the editorial article into a hardcover book.
Why We Should Not Stop at Just Remaking MGS by Saul Ed Sinek is now available at bookstores worldwide. FAQ and giveaway details below.
Wait, really?
Yes.
Can I get it now?
Yes. Again, the book is available for purchase at many bookstores worldwide, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The easiest way to find it from your local book stores to look up its ISBN, 9781087946436. If you have a favorite bookstore that sells print-to-order books, give them that ISBN.
Is there an ebook version?
No, this is a hardcover remake.
Are there differences between the original and this remake?
Yes. The remake has been optimized for a next generation ultra-real hardcover format. Each paragraph has been dedicated its own chapter, with each sentence given its own line break for increased readability. Images in the original article were updated for the current decade with black-and-white vector art.
What else is new?
The hardcover remake features some exclusive new content, including a preface by Saul Ed Sinek that’s about as long as the original article itself.
Are there any plans to publish the preface online?
At the time the preface is a hardcover exclusive, though this answer is being worded in a way where if we change our minds we’ll call it a “timed exclusive.”
Any plans to port the hardcover release to the Nintendo Switch?
We’d love to, but the Switch doesn’t have the power to fully showcase the real-life graphics. Please ask us for an update once the Switch Pro is released.
Who are Orangetip Books?
I dunno, apparently they’ve done some remaster and remake work before in the book publishing world and everyone pointed me towards their directed for hardcover remakes. I guess they’re okay so we went with them.
Which version is canon?
We’ll let Saul elaborate on that because he has “strong opinions” on it:
Editor’s note: we have no idea what he’s talking about; we have reached out to Saul for clarification but he only communicates via PSN direct messages and it takes him some time to type it all out with a DualSense.
Cool, so how can I get the book?
Well, you can buy it. Or you can participate in our giveaways.
Giveaways?
Yeah. We’re giving away at least 5 copies, if not more. If you want to win you have until April 15th 12:01 AM EST to:
1. Follow us on Twitter, retweet and like this tweet.
2. Like us on Facebook and react to this post.
3. Do one of the above, but also reply with your own remake of the original article. We don’t want ideas, we want you to actually make something. Go crazy.
That’s three ways to win a free copy. If enter the third way, you’re more likely to win since we have a feeling most people will not put the effort into making something. Winners will be announced by April 30th.
