I can't even tell you how hard this news hit me. When I found out, I was on the phone with my best friend. I was telling her a story when I got the news. I just stopped. She thought the phone disconnected. I said I was here (or something mumbled to resemble that). She asked if something's wrong. She could tell that I wasn't there.
She wasn't a big fan of Beastie Boys. In fact, she hated them. Though she respected them because she knew I was a huge fan.
I bawled when I found out. I mean this guy was just simply amazing. He directed music videos under his alias as "Nathaniel Hornblower." He also directed a movie called "Awesome! I Fucking Shot That!" which is a concert at Madison Square Garden. They gave 50 fans cameras to film it. They got the footage back and made the flick. You should check it out.
In fact, Spike Jonze probably wouldn't be as profiled if it wasn't for his work with Beastie Boys. I mean how many times did you guys watch this music video?
I know I watched the hell out of it. Then I got their Criterion Collection DVD and dug it again (but uncensored).
Beastie Boys has always been entertaining. No matter what medium they covered, they did it with passion. They formed Osillioscope and produced so many awesome flicks. In fact, they almost got Woody Harrelson an Oscar with The Messenger.
I'm going to miss Adam Yauch dearly. He was just amazing. Everything he touched turned to gold, a modern day King Midas. You'll be missed sir. Thank you for giving us your music, your movies and, most importantly, you.
In closing, I thought this video (I believe the last music video/short film he did) is amazing.

I feel you man. I was a bit appalled when I got the news, because cancer already has a big name in my family and because MCA did a great job as being a real human.
