I got something to say!
Glenn changed his kitty litter today
And it doesn't matter much to him as long as they're fed

increasing resolution allows you to have more stuff going on onscreen, and additionally a widescreen aspect ratio feels much more natural in 1st person games. It also allows the in-game HUD to be smaller, reducing clutter. There are really so many reasons, if not aesthetically then at least just technically it allows modern games to function, imagine running MGS on PS1 in the NES's resolution, (256x224) it just wouldn't work. Same with running modern games in 480p, it doesn't work without resulting in poor gameplay and blurry text. Considering how cheap you can get an HDTV for now, there's really no reason not to buy one.
The only reason you shouldn't get a 3DTV (yet) is that the tech they use to produce a 3D effect is awful, it makes the image too dark to even see clearly no matter how you do it and, in my case at least, it causes serious eye-strain, not to mention the clumsy glasses. If they could bring the 3DS's method over to large televisions it would be great though.
edit: i'm starting to think the reason most of you guys are so cynical towards modern games is that you're still using Analog televisions! I tried playing RDR on an analog TV once, it was hilarious. I couldn't even tell what was going on on-screen.

You'd be mistaken, I have a nice, huge Sony Bravia LCD(with Bravia's Sony device interacting technology! I can control my PS3 and my BluRay/DVD player from the tv remote, and adjust settings, and do more than just scroll around).
I have a smaller HD-capable TV in my bedroom hooked up to the Wii. Don't be mistaken, it's us older generation that are buying the majority of this new tech, and helping it be adopted. It is CHEAPER for you, for each one of us that adopted early. We're the ones (24+) that have finished college and have nice salaried jobs.
I think 3D is shit because it is no further than it was in the 80's when I was a kid. it is still a cheap gimmick effect and hurts your eyes/head if you use it too long. THIS MEANS IT IS STRAINING YOU. I won't fuck my eyes over just to see in "3D".
Also, I saw John pop up about the 90's. Shut your trap, you've lived MORE of your life in the new millennium than you did in the 90's (which can eventually be said of all of us, but with how young you are it's a statement). To be further clear, you were barely aware of most of the 90's, either being a sperm or being a small child/infant.

To be concise, my point had nothing to do with comparing generations or comparing anything really. It was about how it must be difficult to have a 90's nostalgia when the majority of your young period and life in general was in the 00's. |
