If you save before showing the pictures to Otacon, and load the game, the photos are gone.

I don't think the original game behaved that way. Now that's another glitch to add to the list...
I'll try and check it out by myself, and, should it be the same for me too, I'll e-mail user support about the issue. Also, I'll try and write a post about it, news style. |

Yes. I can attest to this. Although I can't remember which version I did it in -- SoL or Substance.

It's so short, even if you do save, It's most likely not in Hold No. 3 with MG RAY.
Technically, it's not "game breaking" because you take the photos in the same room you upload them.
Taking the photos, saving them, turning the system off, and then continuing from where you last saved (the start of the room where you take the photos) -- already having the photos -- could be considered a form of cheating to shave time off a playthrough.
Non-MG RAY photos however, are a different story. But, again, the Tanker Chapter is so short it doesn't really matter all that much.
I see another possible they implemented this procedure, though.
It's to conserve space on the Memory Card.

Oh, I had no idea.
I noticed the "do something, save, get killed in the same room, reload, you have to do it again" thing in practically every Metal Gear game. For some changes to take place, you have to at least leave the room, which makes saving the game twice in the same room (but not necesarilly in a row) useless, unless you want to hear certain conversations (such as Mei Lings proverbs or Rose nagging).
