TGS: MGS HD cutscene aspect ratio issue resolved

Oh look, it's a screenshot from Metal Gear Solid HD Collection from Konami showcasing that shitty aspect ratio Kojima Production calls "super widescreen." But wait, here is another screenshot from Konami...

...and it looks like 16:9. Is this the original aspect ratio? No. It ends up shaving a few pixels off the sides from the original. It's a small loss, but based on how small of a difference it is since the original was somewhere between 16:10 and 16:9, I can say that this is good enough, for sure.

So for the three of you who actually think using up a lot of your HDTV's screen real estate on black just to "see more of the action" you were never meant to see in the first place can do so without ruining what is meant to be a high definition preservation of these two PlayStation 2 gems for the rest of us, who will be glad to see that the image compositions of each and every shot has been preserved. And for those of you who never gave a shit and have gotten sick to death of me bringing this up, I'm considering this issue as resolved.

I know that I personally will be playing my first playthrough in SUPAH-WYDASCREEN but I'll probably go for the original on subsequent. I'm just so excited to see all the weird shit and fuck-ups!

I just saw it on new trailers from the TGS. There seems to be absolutely no "super-widescreen" anymore.^^ I'm overjoyed.

I don't trust TGS. During the panel, Kojima said he didn't know what they were going to do. It was still up for debate. But in the trailer, it said that you could switch between the two modes. I guess we'll have to wait for release to be 100%.

The HD Collection's official website has screenshots both in full screen and super widescreen. The new .zip of screenshots that went up on the Konami press site has both too, they're even in separate folders.

So at this point it's 100% confirmed. The only thing we can debate is how we're going to switch between the two options. Can we do it in real time by clicking in the left stick or some other button during a cutscene, or do we have to pause and go into the Options menu?
