The Dark Knight Rises Subject description: The fire rises. |
|
Batman 3 is now called The Dark Knight Rises and Edward Nygma will not be featured
I'm saddened by both of these bits of news. I was really expecting Nolan to stay away from having "Dark Knight" in the title, considering his goal for the movies to stand apart and not seem like typical sequels.
And then the news that the Riddler won't be the villain is a let down. Admittedly it might be a really obvious pick (as shown by how much everybody assumed the Riddler to be the villain regardless of real evidence), and it's possible that that's why the decision was made to leave E. Nygma out of it, but I can't help but feel like we'll be missing out on something. I wanted to see Nolan's Riddler really badly. It practically writes itself! In fact, I already wrote a plot summary for the movie. But alas, we'll see none of it.
And then there are rumors that Killer Croc will be the villain. That's quite hard to imagine fitting into the Nolanverse. What would they do, rip off Mortal Kombat: Rebirth's Reptile story?
Well, there you go. Batman 3 is moving forward now. Let's discuss some shit.
Oh, and I don't give a fuck that it's not in 3D. Nolan's Batmans aren't meant to suck you into the world. It's supposed to be our world, except with a masked vigilante and a bunch of costumed criminals. There's no point in having 3D utilized, regardless of what James Cameron thinks. I would still like to see Nolan film with the IMAX cameras like was previously rumored though.

I'm glad. 3D is nothing but a gimmick slapped on to very mediocre movies. I have never watched a movie and thought, hey this would be better if it felt like a pop-up book.
I tend to stay away from mainstream movies these days but this will bring me back. I've been a Batman fan since I had bat-diapers and this is the first Batman movie series that's actually good, minus a few flaws here and there.
And I'm glad that The Riddler isn't the villian. That would be too predictable and meh.

“We’re looking to do something technologically that’s never been done before. Our ambitions are to make a great movie... We want the look and feel of the film to be faithful to what has come before in the first two films. There was a large canvas and operatic sweep to ‘The Dark Knight’ and we want to make a film that will carry on with that look and feel... There’s an intimacy at times [with spatial illusion of the 3-D effect] and we didn’t want to lose scale… Our ambition for the third movie is to complete a story that has begun. This is not starting over, this not rebooting. We’re finishing something, and keeping a consistency with what’s come before has real value.” -Christopher Nolan on 3D
While I do valiantly support 3D, as I've already stated, 3D just isn't for these films. While it's awesome for vibrant movies like Toy Story 3 and Avatar, it just wouldn't be fit the intense and brooding character of Batman and might turn out kind of obscured. Plus, 3D makes shit look shaded as fuck, so an already dark picture (and not in tone) would look like crap unless Nolan upped the brightness meter, but that would fuck with the 2D version too. Sticking with the "old school" format was a smart move. If he wants to use 3D sometime, do it on Superman, which I believe would fit quite well.
Also, it's basically confirmed that this will be the last of Nolan's Batman films, especially when he says things like "We’re finishing something".

I think you meant Rises, not Returns. That confused me for a second.
The Dark Knight Rises sounds very cliched. They might as well have given it a more horrible name, like Batman Resurrection. I suppose the other two well-known Batman titles, that is "The World's Greatest Detective" and "The Caped Crusader", would not have matched with the style of Nolan's Batman series.
They probably also want to bank on The Dark Knight, since it did in fact make a lot of money. A lot of people (the casual audience if you will) who saw it didn't even know that it was a sequel to Batman Begins, so keepng "Dark Knight" in the name helps bring them back.

FUCK, I've already done it! I knew this shit was going to happen! Shoulda just called it "Returns" and spared us all the confusion. "Rises"? What the fuck is that shit? And throwing DARKNIGHT in there is just weak.
I'm not sure it was done just for marquee value though. Nolan's basically said that the studio isn't having much say in this, they're just letting him go. If that's so, then it was his decision to title it this way. So why then? Is he making a blatant money grab? He never seemed like that type of person before. I don't get it.
I've compiled a list of titles that would be better here:
Gotham Rises
The Caped Crusader
Batman Redeemed
Batman Triumphant
Return of the Batman
Batman's Revenge
Batman 3
Batman III
Batman Episode III: Ice to Meet You
Batman ENDS
THE END
Batman and Robin Strike Back
Bruce MOTHERFUCKING Wayne
Rory's Last Kiss
Batman's Last Adventure
Batman: Back in the Batmobile Again
Christopher Nolan's Batman: I am the Night
Batman
Batman
Batman
Batman: A Christopher Nolan Film

Nope, Nolan said he doesn't want to bring Joker back.

Lot of rumors going around that he was going to be going with Black Mask.
I think the title is interesting being that this is the one to wrap it all up. I figured The Dark Knight Falls or something would be more appropriate.
The Riddler would of been obvious but hell, I'd love it. Especially with the way Nolan works. I still say that Stephen Colbert would of made an excellent Riddler.
