Wiki rules |
|
We're going to start moderating the wiki. Let's have a discussion on what our policy on the wiki should be like. The wiki originated as an experiment to see if it can replace the main site. It failed, but it instead flourished as a way of documenting various "community" related entries and individual members. I kept it as a result but haven't really checked on it much and did not request any sort of moderation attempt. Feel free to discuss how the wiki should (or should not) be regulated and I will take it all into consideration.

But don't trash it. | Edited to fit my views, but I agree with Erik's observation.
I could go with trashing it and rebuilding it from the ashes but there's really no need for that. I think a sensible rule could be leaving out commentary when it comes to social things that happen here at the Soup. But of course, we should finely articulate that rule so that it doesn't get in the way of some fun and non-personal commentary either.
So maybe we could say "no personal attacks", and define "personal attacks".

Use "see preview" and not just keep changing shit and saving it until you like it. No deleting things other people put on a page unless it's approved by the wiki administration, although that'd be really hard to enforce. None of this "opinion" shit. The wiki pages are articles, not a fucking approval repository. A person(s) should be in charge of keeping shit organized and correct, like basic grammar and spelling to proper wiki structure with links, headings and pictures being used right. |
Well said, sir! And I do agree with you mostly.

I like the Soup Wiki. It's like Facebook except we can all modify each other's profiles for good friendly fun, like this.
The situation that started all of this, on the other hand, isn't a good example...
Is it possible to block someone from editing your page? That could help allot.

Let some of forum rules apply to wikki. Replace Econs with some one actually competent and who doesn't play favorites. Because yet again he has, instead of giving them both a warning like he should have ..he only gave a warning to Julia because he's pissy at her ...that or he's a fucking nitwit.
Either way he shouldn't be a mod and history speaks for itself. Every time you had to comeback and baby-sit us it always had something to do with Econs.
Enough of him already.
Suggestion for new mods: John, Ze kyle, fanya.. In fact mod all three of them.

He didn't warn Casual because, before today, the Wiki wasn't moderated.
Julia made a thread, on the forums, that violated one of the rules, as Ravi explained;
| Ravi Singh wrote: | | This thread is still a violation of 2§1 as it seems to be directed towards Casual Cat, at least in the last sentence. Julia, you should have PMd an admin or, at most, brought the issue of private information posted on a wiki to light rather than pretty much carrying on this ongoing nonsense. |
Econs did what he should have done. Now that the Wiki is moderated, should Casual ever do something like that again, he will be warned.
Whoa.
Would be cool, but won't happen.

First off, I started this topic not to talk about whatever the fuck happened. I already straightened out the issue and there really isn't much more to discuss. When I first read that thread I concurred with Econs until I actually went into the Wiki and it's editing history to see what the fuck happened, who wrote what, etc. That thread was written so poorly that it seemed like Julia came on just to post a fuckload of PMs. Remember, we can only comprehend what the fuck is in a post by the post itself.
Having a different mod wasn't going to magically cause the two parties to cease and desist. Nor would it had magically establish rules to which posting private information would result in a warning being issued. I'm not "babysitting" anyone outside of the wiki, which, get this: HAS NO MODERATION. The claim that this issue stems from a moderator is akin to saying that a police officer should lose his badge because far away in an isolated island someone is consuming human flesh. It was never under their jurisdiction to begin with!
So this is a thread discussing how we should go ahead with regulated the wiki. Clearly not all of the forum rules should apply, but which ones should? To what degree? It also all depends on what the fuck you kids use the wiki for anyways. I sure as fuck don't use it so I don't know. I could just delete it and nothing of value would be lost. Some of you do use it though, so it's best to see what we're going to do based on how people use it.
Here's what I got so far:
Use "Talk" pages for discussions; do not have discussions on actual entries.
Stop fucking chatting.
Any information about another member that is not made public on The Snake Soup or given consent to be made public cannot be posted.
Essentially one of the forum rules.
There is of course, the issue of people going back and forth on editing pages. One idea I had on the top of my head was disallowing quotes unless they are actually posted on the forum. Cut this "lol how this bro feels bout me" bullshit and just fucking use quotations. Speaking of which, some of you people really need to learn how to use Wiki code.
Another idea is to permit each user to their own page for which they have absolute control, given that they are following a set of rules.
Then there's just deleting fucking everything. Or banning user pages. Ou est Klaus Vight?
Or we just start using templates for different pages--meaning you cannot add a new section or whatever. I dunno, you guys tell me man. Maybe we should keep things the way they are and sacrifice a pigeon for good luck.

I'm gonna drop it here. We're going to argue again where neither one of us will agree and we'll just end up repeating the same shit more or less all over. Besides it's your forum and you're the boss.
Make a poll and let the members decide if wikki should stay, get trashed or whatever.
