Yes is a very bad spanish, I'm from México and yes is horrible, the actors dont know how to say the letter "r" but It can be worse in MGS4 they say Mejico in one of the TV ads in the begin of the game. But overrall is Ok the spanish in the game.

I'm from Spain, and half colombian by the way. I can only agree :)
Kaz speaks horrible japanese, Cecile speaks horrible french, and Chico speaks mostruous spanish.
Paz averagely behaves herself, Amanda does better, and Big Boss is THE bipedal genious.
Then there's Zadornov, who doesn't give a crap. Well, impersonating him is Vincent Valentine's voice, star brought right from Square-Enix's mother base. How can you compare that to David Hayter? Deep and sexy, yes... But experienced in vocal registers?

This. | lol @ Volgin
and Sokolov
and Ocelot... |
Funny you should mention that; MGS3 had some of the cast speaking with accents (Granin, Russian President) whilst the other half of the cast just didn't bother at all (pretty much the entirety of the Cobra Unit, hell all of the antagonists in the game). I do know that was supposed to be because Snake was speaking Russian to the characters in the game who speak it, but Granin was the weak link there...
In Twin Snakes pretty much ALL accents are gone with the exception of Raven and Mantis...
And in MGS4, they seemed to completely do away with accents, except for Vamp (only one character).
And now fake accents are back again in Peace Walker (all characters who should have accents; do). Got to say I much prefer it this way. |
The reason Granin and Khrushchev spoke with accents was because they themselves were speaking in English to Snake & LBJ, respectively. The lack of accents throughout the rest of MGS3 had to do with how they were all speaking in Russian language, but KojiPro didn't want to go through the hassle of having everyone speaking in hsilgnE (hey; Russian sounds like they're speaking backwards), and God forbid we all have to pay attention to subtitles more than anything else. Obviously, some of the Russian characters like Volgin and Sokolov have unique accents (oops, redundancy) in their dialogue, but I think that's supposed to be a personality sort of thing.
For MGS4, I admit that the Praying Mantis group should've had British accents, because they're supposed to be a British PMC, are they not? As for the PMC in Chapter 2 (can't think of the name at the moment), they're French, but French would be too much of a hassle to deal with so everybody would be speaking English.
As for Peace Walker, well, Ravi said that fake accents are better than no accents. All I can say to that is that it would just be more realistic to have a voice-actor respective to his/her character's nationality. If a character is French, get a French person to do the character's voice. It shouldn't cost that much, but I've always felt that certain things in Japanese entertainment production could cost pretty much all of Japan's economy, so perhaps I don't know what I'm talking about when I suggest these things.

See, that's precisely what I meant when I created this topic and typed my original rant. I was on a plane two days ago and figured I'd play some more PW since I haven't finished it yet and the flight was a few hours long. I figured I'd see if there were any new tapes to listen to before really getting started and ended up listening to Cecile's rant about sweets (in case you want to check it out, it's under "France", then "Macaroons"). I got so annoyed by how badly she mangled every single food she named that I thought "Fuck that" and resorted to trying to find something watchable on a crappy little seat-embedded TV that kept flickering. I ended up watching the first Addams Family movie.
I really don't care if you won't fetch a voice actor who actually speaks their character's language so long as they sound at least decent, but it's another story if you're going to have them constantly use words in that language. Honestly, how hard would it really be to find a decent voice actor who speaks French/Spanish/whatever? Hell, they don't even have to be all that experienced; you could give a newbie a chance to start a career and perhaps make a name for themselves some day.

Does it not? Don't get me wrong. There is nothing I hate more than ignorant, collectivistic accusations about things people don't fully understand, but the game industry is still primitive in more ways than one. The feminist movement needs to regain the integrity it once held, but the game industry hasn't even reached a point where it can be considered an industry with companies that consistently deliver artistic and intellectual properties.
I feel fans still don't get what The Boss was doing. Volgin fucked her over by firing the nuke. If she decided to not follow the CIA's orders, Russia would retaliate and World War III would ensue. If that didn't occur to you then you weren't paying attention. You'd be a serious asshole not to follow orders in that case. Eva and Snake saw her as a true patriot because of the role forced upon her.
Anyways, the accents were mostly fine to me. I've missed them since MGS2. I don't typically listen to French, Russian, or Costa Rican accents, so I couldn't tell how accurate they were.
