Kojima claims Peace Walker will be longest MGS ever

Besides being very apologetic about the sudden delay for the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Hideo Kojima also boasted that Peace Walker will have the longest story mode of the entire series.

considering i can beat any mgs game in less than 5 hours skipping cutscenes, it will be interesting to see this.

i mean mgs4 was the longest to me and that was just the cutscenes added to it to make it nearly 9 hours or something.

Maybe this game really will cover the timeline right up to the first Metal Gear, thus answering ALL QUESTIONS about Big Boss, little Snakes and whether Raikov really is Raiden's father so the fans can STFU and let him work on new things.

Portable Ops took longer to beat than all of the other Metal Gears if I remember correctly. That's not one you can just blow through by skipping cut scenes. It seems like Peace Walker will evolve the formula in PO so I can see how it could easily be the longest game in the series.

Instead of having one large environment (MGS, MGS2) or a series of environments (MGS3, MGS4) that are progressed in a (relatively) linear fashion, PO had bunch of small levels that (I think...) would be re-used with different mission objectives. This formula makes it much easier to extend the gameplay since new assets do not need to be created for every mission/objective.

Hasn't he said something to that effect before? Something about the game being over 100 hours? I assumed it includes the multiplayer or co-op or something...

I don't know, it doesn't matter much to me anyway. It's nice to see him excited for this. Whenever he gets like that, he usually has good reason. He may be needing rest, but he is still a great game designer, even though there have been a couple of not-so-stellar entries in the series lately.

We expect it as that's the way it should be, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen.
