READ IT ALL to prevent warnings and bans.

While the moderators of The Snake Soup forums will be respecting everybody's free speech on these forums, we have established a few rules to encourage discussions of all sorts while discouraging a social-networking environment.

We have a few categories for our rules, with "A" being the most severe, "C" being hardly severe, if at all, and "F" being fun if you can handle it. Moderators issue warnings and three results in a ban. Each ban gets longer and longer:

First ban = One Day Ban
Second ban = One Week Ban
Third ban = One Month Ban
Fourth ban = One Month Ban OR One Year Ban (based on administrative review)
Future bans = One Month Ban OR One Year Ban OR BANNED indefinitely (based on administrative review)

Bans, both active and served, are listed on our Crimes & Punishment thread. Occasionally we do offer a chance to eliminate all warnings and/or bans through special events. Don't expect them to happen to often.

The following rules may be edited by me. Whenever they are, I will reply to this topic mentioning that they have been updated. Always keep updated with the rules if you don't want to be banned for being a whiny bitch. I will be the only one updating the rules.

A-Rules: Violations result in 3 warnings issued.

A1) DRAMA DETERRENCE
Any comments made directly towards one individual such as comments on their signature, avatar, how much you want them dead, etc. should be made via private messaging and NOT in a thread. You may post it in response to a thread if it bears any relevance to any previous posts. EXCEPTIONS: Anything directed to Ravi Singh.

A2) PRIVACY PROTECTION
Any information about another member that has not been made public here and given consent to be made public here cannot be posted anywhere on this site. IF SOMEONE HAS POSTED YOUR PRIVATE INFORMATION, PM ANY MOD! PM ALL MODS AT ONCE FOR BEST RESULTS!

A3) NO ADVERTISING
Do not advertise. You may only do so should it be relevant to an already established discussion or in your avatar, signature, and/or profile.

A4) NO DUPLICATE MEMBERSHIP
Do not create a new account. If you wish to change your username you may do so as noted in RULE B5 below. Violators could be banned indefinitely!

A5) NO CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
Due to United States federal law and several international laws, we absolutely can't allow child pornography.

A6) NO SPOILERS
Any spoilers made visible outside of the game's designated forum before four months after a game's release will be a violation of this rule. See RULE B11 for additional spoiler-related rules.

B-Rules: Violations result in 1 warning issued.

B1) RELEVANCY OF POST
A conversation changes topic naturally. This is acceptable as long as the switch is not dramatic and random. Every post made within a topic must be clearly connected to a previous post within the topic.

B2) INTRODUCTIONS AND ANNOUNCED DEPARTURES
Do not create a new topic should you feel the need to introduce yourself or announce your departure. You may only do so in the Hello, Goodbye thread under Sit Down, Relax, and Hate.

B3) SINGLE RESPONSE ONLY
You are only allowed to post once in a topic unless your post has a reply. If you want to add something to what you have already posted, you must edit your post and do so that way. Any accidental duplicate posts should simply be left alone and the moderators will remove them without issuing a warning. DO NOT POST A RESPONSE JUST TO "BUMP" THREADS.

B4) NO EMPTY APOLOGIES
If you have had a warning issued, do not apologize for it within the thread you violated the rule in. This is a waste of a post. If you are sorry, feel free to prove it by not violating the rule again. APOLOGIZING PUBLICLY MERELY PROVES THAT YOU DID NOT READ THE RULES!

B5) NAME CHANGE PROCEDURES
Any user may change their username by clicking on PROFILE/OPTIONS in the menu above. However, you must then post in the NAME CHANGE thread under The 'Soup. FOR BEST RESULTS, POST YOUR NEW NAME BEFORE ACTUALLY CHANGING IT!

B6) SOME STUPID LAW
Due to United States federal law, links or images in a forum post, user avatar, or user signature that are pornographic and "lack serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for minors" must be linked-to with a clear warning of the content. A simple "NSFW" ("Not Safe For Work") will work but there are other ways.

B7) NO WORD GAMES
Do not start a word game, such as "Take the title of a song, any song, and add the words "during sex" to it." Forums are meant to be a means of holding discussions, not ad libbing!

B8) SOUP LAWYERS
You are allowed to contest any warnings that are issued within the thread it was issued in. However, you must contest it by proving that you did not break a rule. If you wish to debate the rules themselves, start a thread in The 'Soup forum. If you have already been banned and wish to contest your warning(s) shoot an e-mail to [email protected] with your defense.

B9) YOU ARE YOU, THAT'S IT!
Do not try to impersonate anyone on the forum by altering your username, avatar, or signature.

B10) IF YOU ARE NOT A MODERATOR THEN SHUT THE FUCK UP!
The moderators read the posts. The moderators issue warnings. If you notice someone breaking the rules, ignore them. An exception to this is if they are violating RULE A2 on your behalf using your information.

B11) SPOILERS ANONYMOUS
In addition to RULE A6, do not put spoilers in a thread title or description before four months after the game's release, even in the game's designated forum. "Spoilers" in this particular rule refers to anything that has not been officially released by Konami. In addition, any thread made that contains spoilers made before four months after the game's release should have the word "SPOILER" in all capital letters in the title.

C-Rules: Violations result in possible thread lockage and possibility of looking like an idiot.

C1) OWNERSHIP OF PRIVATE PROPERTY
Ravi Singh reserves the right to do anything he pleases on the forums.

C2) FORUM ETIQUETTE
No 1337, no stupid jokes about cheese, monkeys, how bored you are, and such. THE SNAKE SOUP IS NOT YOUR FACEBOOK STATUS UPDATE! Likewise, keep in mind that the moderators read your posts as you have posted them. Any typos are read as-is and if an "A" or "B" rule is violated, a warning will be issued! Posting under the influence is not an excuse!

C3) LOL HAI GUISE
Inside jokes that are not related to Metal Gear or The Snake Soup must be made clear. Don't assume that everyone here goes to ebaumsworld or whatever.

C4) SEGREGATION OF FORUMS
Keep serious discussions in Sit Down, Relax, and Hate. Post any Metal Gear related news in the Metal... Gear? forum. Keep any discussion, feedback, or comments about the website in The 'Soup forum. Everything else goes into I, Dumbass. If there is a board dedicated to a certain game, keep all discussion of that game in that respective forum. SPOILER POST AND TOPICS HOWEVER ARE VIOLATIONS OF A-AND-B RANK RULES: SEE RULES A6 AND B11!

C5) SHARED IP ADDRESSES
If you share an IP address with somebody, please alert a moderator at once. You may be sharing an IP address if you use ever the same computer or network as someone else in the forums. This way we can avoid any future suspicions of a RULE A4 violation.

C6) RECOMMENDED READING
As we do not moderate "hate speech," "flaming," "trolling," private messages, etc. I highly recommend you read An Introduction to the Free Market of Topics, 3nd Ed. as it explains why our system works to free up speech as much as possible as forum members such as you pick and choose what threads and post deserve attention or not. On a separate note, on discussions regarding Metal Gear, it's recommended that you catch up on the latest news and generally check the main site. The Snake Soup is much more than a discussion forum.

F-Rule: Violations result in A FURY FRIDAY warning and ban as defined within the rule

F) FURY FRIDAYS
Every Friday from heron is dubbed Fury Friday. On Fury Friday, moderators are allowed to issue a Fury Friday for posts subjectively thought of as "stupid." Each Fury Friday warning will be shown in the Crimes & Punishment page as an asterisk (*). One asterisk bans the user for the second Friday of every month.
