So, yeah. | Josh wrote: | | In the upcoming world of Downloadable content, GB = power. The more you have, the more you have. Is it not possible that they've upped the GB by 20 in order to allow for more content for the player? SOCOM: Confrontation, for instance, is rumoured to be releasing both in physical disk form, and in the form of a completely downloadable game. That being said, it's more than likely that other games will follow in suit, not to mention simple features and content that will take up space on the hard-drive. | Let's just wait and see what brilliance will come out of an extra 20GB. | Josh wrote: | | You're basically saying that instead of pushing the gaming world into the future, they should leave it where it is so that you can play MGS2 over and over and over again. | Last time I checked, PlayStation 3 games are still coming out on BluRay discs. The "iTunes for video games" concept companies like Sony and Microsoft were thinking about have yet to be implemented for anything more than demos and small games. The difference of 20GB is NOT going to create a time paradox for the future of gaming. If it really did, the PS3 would have came with an 80GB harddrive from the get-go. | Josh wrote: | | Despite the one perk of being able to play old games, you're forgetting about what the "next-gen" systems are supposed to be..."Next-gen". | Let's say that instead of the emotional engine, it was the ability to play back BluRays. 20GB extra and a shitty game to sacrifice this feature, by your logic, is ok because the movie playback feature has nothing to do with next-gen gaming. However, it's still a bad deal for the price, considering that an Xbox 360 with the HD-DVD add-on is around the same price. | Josh wrote: | | SNES doesn't play regular NES games, and I haven't heard anyone bitch about that. | Maybe it's because Nintendo didn't say that the SNES would be able to play NES games. Also, they never released an SNES unit that played NES games. Sony did. Now they're taking it back for minor cost issues. | Josh wrote: | | No, you either emulate, or pay the $20 for an old NES. It's not a difficult concept. | This is funny, because not only is buying an NES for $20 actually quite impossible, but you're saying that companies like Sony are encouraging emulation. The reality is that they're cutting costs and advising players to forget some PlayStation 2 games, or buy a new PS2.
The Wii promised a good success rate for GameCube playback, and they delivered. Microsoft admitted that the 360 would not be able to play most Xbox games, and while people still bitched, it was not a big issue because they admitted it. The PlayStation 3's promotional flyers and shit all state that you can play your favorite PlayStation One and PlayStation 2 games. Furthermore, you can actually do that--on certain units produced before August 2007. They have removed a feature.
I'm not one to tell Sony what to do--I don't even give a fuck because I already have a 60Gb PlayStation 3. I simply posted this news story because I'm sure there's a good number of people who would rather have their money's worth and have fewer consoles hooked up to their television. If you don't give a fuck, then, well, don't. You're just rambling on about how cheap a PS2 is, and then how its really not, but not a big deal if you're paying $600 for a console, since obviously everybody who will buy a PS3 lives in Bel-Air.

For not a big deal you certainly make big deal out of the backwards compatibility thing. For Fuck's sake it is only two hundred or so games in contrast to a 20,000+ gaming library.

| Cord wrote: | | For not a big deal you certainly make big deal out of the backwards compatibility thing. | Do I? I just posted a news story. This is a Metal Gear fansite, and there are people who actually are interested in knowing if they can play their older Metal Gear games on the PS3. Josh jumps in and acts like playing PS2 games is akin to listening to vinyl records, and you stated that they removed the E.E. for technical purposes, which is not true. | Cord wrote: | | For Fuck's sake it is only two hundred or so games in contrast to a 20,000+ gaming library. | And around 10,000 games with gameplay errors. Subsistence, for example, will work, but will have lots of slowdown and glitches. Snake Eater and Substance won't even work at all.
I mean, it's kind of funny when San Andreas, the highest selling game for the PS2, has huge issues. Same with Gran Turismo 4. Even the Xbox 360's backwards compatibility is better in this way because they took the top-selling/popular games and made them work.
Another thing that's funny is that Sons of Liberty used to not work, and instead, Snake Eater did. Sony said "well you can play MGS3, which is newer" as if MGS3 makes MGS2 obsolete--when they updated their emulation software, it was reversed.

I wasn't referring directly to you, I was addressing the situation as a whole. You were talking about how lame Sony is for saying that PS3 will be totally backwards-compatable, but then they took the feature out, so people with no PS2 are stuck without their old games. Well, that's basically what you said.
I'm just saying that that can be pointed out and bashed 'til the cows come home and it's not going to make any difference. Everyone knows how lame it is, but that's how it turned out to be, so instead of bitching and arguing, I say we just agree on the solution.
