The problem is that they've run into a new, cool technology that pushes the boundary of current standards dramatically....and there's no real way to show it off.
Even in pre-renders you can swoop the camera around as much as you want.
Don't be too amazed by it, it's a cool new processing method, but it's not that far ahead, I see plenty of things in that image that were "cheated" including the dumbest looking skybox in a tech demo ever.
Otherwise it does look fantastic, but more so it looks INTERESTING. I hate tech demos for this reason, they always look like games I want to play.

I recall Konami doing the exact same thing with the initial MGS4 trailer. On a positive note the new tech demos shown don't look much more advanced than the ps3s. Meaning next-gen console will most likely look this good.
I agree with you Lyonardo the art direction is pretty sweet there, it would show that FF has alot of variety. its ironic how every game is a different universe but still same-y.

It's not a Wii U demonstration, if that's what you're getting at. Wii U is not exactly "next gen."
The demo is apparantly being run in real time on a high-end gaming rig with off-the-shelf parts.
The video was created by Visual Works, which is Square's cinematics department, as a demonstration of their next gen engine.
Big thing to keep in mind with tech demos is that rendering a realtime cutscene takes a lot less power than realtime gameplay.

Maybe my definition of pre-rendered is wrong, but I was under the impression that "pre-rendered" meant that it's already been converted into a 2D video file. You can't "swoop the camera around" in a pre-rendered video any more than you can with a DVD movie.
Unless you mean in the pre-vis/editing stage while they're actually working on the movie, before rendering the final version, or that the whole presentation was pre-rendered.
Also, worth noting that high-end CGI/FMV usually isn't rendered at real time. It might take hours or even days for multiple networked computers/servers to output the video files in hi-resolution with all of the effects and physics active.

You are correct, I'm merely thinking from a development standard, where for the entirety of it's creation it's just a 3D scene with scripted action happening, and someone chooses camera angles/directions/movements.
But it's called pre-rendered because they're just decoding video when it lands on the console, not rendering anything. My apologies.

It's what I'm getting at.
Hopefully what Square and Ubisoft and Epic are showing will solidify in Sony's mind to shoot for a hi-spec $500 console in 2014. I'd say Microsoft too, but Kinect-as-standard considerations might either have the neXtbox cost more or they're gonna cut corners on console hardware. Sony could likely do the same for all we know, but I've a feeling they'd rather keep the camera/additional gimmicks non-standard, but at least available from launch Day-1, maybe with some bundles.
Jack Tretton's recent comments this E3 that PS4 will neither aim to be the cheapest nor launch first, but simply be the best, along with House's admitting that PS4 titles are in development is encouraging. They won't have blu-ray diodes and exotic architecture chips inflating the price either this time, so I think we're good for getting a nice long lasting powerful box at $499 in 2014.

Well yes, what else would it be on other than a high end PC? Though no doubt, whatever rig they've built is probably made to suit expectations that either Sony and Microsoft are giving them. Of course stuff can always change, considering that when MGS4 debuted it was a real time demo running on expected specs for PS3, though price considerations and hardware changes cut down the expected power of PS3 when Sony had trouble getting two cells to do what they want and opted for a cheaper graphics card.
Discussions and examinations by others about this demo seem to suggest that everything shown there is entirely feasible and a legit ballpark of what the actual next gen can bring us. Particularly considering a game like Final Fantasy which focuses on cinematics and is turn based. I believe this SE demo is the likely standard of what to expect from next gen graphics.
Whatever UnReal Engine 4 is going to show tomorrow will likely blow this away and be more iffy as to whether Sony and Microsoft go for specs that support that... At least that's the consensus I'm seeing.
If both Sony and Microsoft hold off until 2014, then I think it's entirely good that we'll achieve this on $500 retail machines.
So far, we've seen next gen signs from EA, Ubisoft, Epic and now Square Enix, so something's obviously brewing. I've no doubt Kojima's FOX Engine is also being made with next-gen as the focus, and he's keeping a tight lid on things because next-gen is still 'hush-hush' at the moment. All those crazy lighting and transparent underwear things and details he's been teasing us with certainly look like what is feasible on next-gen consoles rather than current gen.
I'm guessing Project Ogre will also be a multi-generational game (Vita/PS3/360/WiiU/PS4/720/PC) when it launches. RISING will be the last Metal Gear game for this current gen. MGS5 and Z.O.E. 3 to next gen.
