Its become a political football issue.
If you're asking about how all this sparked then in a small nutshell:
-White House seeks to have contraception covered via health insurance for women by employers
-Religious institutions have a hissy fit about it. It is spin doctered into a "war againist religion" talking point against Obama, completely disregarding the health benefits that do not even have anything to do with reproduction.
-White House and Cardinal Dolan come to terms, insurance companies will get stuck with the contraception bill instead.
-Rep candidates don't let up about the issue, using it as a bashing point against Obama.
-Other bills/laws around the country revolving around contraception and anti-abortion measures come to light during this debacle which snowballs the whole thing further.
A big activist sparking nugget that has come from all this has been a anti-abortion provision in a few states that force women seeking abortion to undergo a trans-vaginal probe ultrasound, during which they will be forced to hear the heartbeat and have a screen placed in front of their faces (but they can look away!)
So women are mad regardless of party and this whole banning contraception mess is another instance where the White House is loling in the backrooms. As far as I know Santorum is the only one openly against contraception 100%. Romney the flopper is on god knows what side over this and I haven't heard much from Newt.
Oh yeah and employers can opt out of coverage as long as its on the grounds of a "moral objection" which includes religious institutions and everyone else as well. This itself is another issue wherein regular employers could technically deny covering things on this very vague ground.

Dude, in this day and age, him being a man is enough be accused of to being anti-woman.

The tax monster needs a ground-up overhaul in general. What was it? 14k+ provisions added, millions of words added all in ~20 years? It's another political football that neither party has an incentive to really go after as it stands today.

The problem is, where are these people when anti-war activists are busted for tax evasion? | I remember seeing an image macro about that on some "Republicans Fucking Suck" Facebook page. The moderator kept calling people anti-women for thinking it's wrong for the government to force people to pay for birth control. "YOU ALL SOUND LIKE CAVEMEN."
I can't find the image, but it said "If you don't want to pay for contraception, because you're morally opposed to it, does that mean I can not pay for war, which I'm morally opposed to?"
My mind screamed "YES! YOU CAN! YOU SHOULD!" But it dawned on me what's really being said in the picture; "eh... I don't like war, but as long as I get to chow down on free baby-be-gone pills*, it's k."
This reminded me of a time in my old Social Studies class. We were talking about seat belt laws. I say it's the government trying to replace common sense. My teacher says that he has to pay for the guy's medical care if he gets in a wreck (then he tried to butter me up with a scenario involving kids in a car wreck. THINK OF THE CHILDREN LAWL.)
We had to write down our thoughts on the issue. This one girl, who supports these seatbelt laws, was very angry at the thought of some guy recklessly driving without a seatbelt, and having her tax dollars go to pay for it. "If I don't have my right to keep my money, why should you have the right to not wear a seatbelt?!"
Just look at her words. Her rights were violated, which is worth bitching about, but she wants to settle it by violating other people's rights. I didn't hear any compassion for her fellow man from her, which is what Leftists are all about (according to them.) All I heard was irrational hatred and longing for vengeance.
This is what entitlement does. It doesn't encourage moral justice or "fairness." It encourages a system of dependence and "gimmie!"
*If I were running for public office, this line would kill me if someone dug it up.
