What's this bullshit about?

I know, I know, "lol go look it up yourself." But please, understand, I do not have the patience to sit through Google links ranging from "lol these hippie communists r conspirizing against Jesus" to "lol these racist republicans r declaring war on women." The Soup has a built-in Bullshit filter, so it'd be more informative if I just discuss it with you guys.

I know Ron Paul is against banning the pill, though he obviously is against the government handing it out like candy, which is enough for Leftist to moan about how he's somehow anti-woman (strawman argument), but what about the other candidates?

Its become a political football issue.

If you're asking about how all this sparked then in a small nutshell:
-White House seeks to have contraception covered via health insurance for women by employers
-Religious institutions have a hissy fit about it. It is spin doctered into a "war againist religion" talking point against Obama, completely disregarding the health benefits that do not even have anything to do with reproduction.
-White House and Cardinal Dolan come to terms, insurance companies will get stuck with the contraception bill instead.
-Rep candidates don't let up about the issue, using it as a bashing point against Obama.
-Other bills/laws around the country revolving around contraception and anti-abortion measures come to light during this debacle which snowballs the whole thing further.

A big activist sparking nugget that has come from all this has been a anti-abortion provision in a few states that force women seeking abortion to undergo a trans-vaginal probe ultrasound, during which they will be forced to hear the heartbeat and have a screen placed in front of their faces (but they can look away!)

So women are mad regardless of party and this whole banning contraception mess is another instance where the White House is loling in the backrooms. As far as I know Santorum is the only one openly against contraception 100%. Romney the flopper is on god knows what side over this and I haven't heard much from Newt.

Oh yeah and employers can opt out of coverage as long as its on the grounds of a "moral objection" which includes religious institutions and everyone else as well. This itself is another issue wherein regular employers could technically deny covering things on this very vague ground.

Obama pretty much played a card to make the conservatives rile up and crowd around Santorum who next to Gingrich has no chance against Obama. It worked. It worked well. I don't mean that Santorum will get the nomination, but the Santorum wing of the Republican Party just makes the Republican Party as a whole look bad.

Another issue I'd like to bring up: I agree with the traditionalists who argue that they should not have their tax dollars going into something they feel is morally wrong. The problem is, where are these people when anti-war activists are busted for tax evasion?

The tax monster needs a ground-up overhaul in general. What was it? 14k+ provisions added, millions of words added all in ~20 years? It's another political football that neither party has an incentive to really go after as it stands today.
