While sure it would be retelling SOME story it doesn't mean new information wouldn't be learned. I think the biggest thing people on this website forget is that Metal Gear is a FUCKING VIDEO GAME! Video games are meant to entertain people. If they do retell Liquid or Solids past it would probably be pretty awesome and fun. Or I suppose you could pout and complain that it's not necessary.

The falacy with this argument is that, if the story isn't an issue whatsoever (which it is), why not do something new and unrelated to the established canon, which would also benefit the series creatively? It would probably be just as fun, after all.

No, the reason we're still getting these is that it's easier for a very tired Kojima and eagerly digested by the audience. It's the equivalent of tangling a pair of very shiny keys in front of a baby.

That's not even bringing up how the clusterfuck of a continuity we have in our hands now would be further burdened by whatever new information we get that will probably have to be implemented in some form in the following games, damaging the flow of the storytelling, until it makes it incomprehensible. MGS4 suffered from the same thing.

MGS1 is about 8 hours long. Five of which is cutscenes. The rest have plenty of areas with no enemies at all, and tons of backtracking. What little "real" gameplay there is is fun, but VR Missions has much more of it.

What made such a mediocre game so cherished by many gamers?

tons of backtracking.

i actually liked that, the 1st 2 mgs titles happened at small enclosed locations, and is nice to explore, and see the places from "different" perspectives. exploring the settings, bot only because you wanted, and is driven by plot to, wich makes the setting more memorable than let's say- selinoyask northen swamp, or that part of mgs4 where soldiers are figthing a local guerrilla and there is a thing wich you can snipe them from adove... that's why moses, big shell, the tanker or grosny gard are pretty much a important places for the series, you got to know them by bactracking and "finding new rooms and stuff like that.

Which is kind of what I'm saying. Without the story there's no flow and the backtracking feels cheap.

c'mon we already know what liquid and dave where doing at the time,(green berets stuff, and middle east wetworks) we don't need a game or a new piece of media to explain what already was summed up on a few sentences many years before it, we know how that shit usually ends up.

ko¿inda tired to interquels to prequels that dosen't affect the original "piece" of media, converting a lot of sidestories and subplots into "new products", just keep those stories to your imaginations, you don't need anyone to explain you how liquid got his deapers changed in 1979, because his daddy issues dosen't alowed him to crap at his own will until he got 15 years.

In all fairness, none of what we've been getting since MGS3 (at least) has been necessary or useful. I agree with you, I'm just saying, you can apply it to this entire game just by the fact that it's about Big Boss.

This^ I've never been one those guys who ragged on the issue the series should have ended with 2. But honestly everything after that point has been pretty much unnessary retelling of events by your standards. So should they stop? Sure..are they going to? No. Just stating what I'd like to see them do since it's going to be happening (more games) anyways,

like i said before im tired of missing links that dosen't lead to the "metal gear" but to another metal gear solid interquel. those missing links actually have the same ending from mgs3... big boss saluting... to the boss ideals or something, at least RISING will be pretty refreshing, but some people dosen't call this a metal gear game, they might be right... but for me is a breeze of new air. i want to see new stuff not the same shit all over again

don't get me wrong, but since mgs3 i feel like everything is the same... for the most part

I don't understand why they can't do an entirely closed story that has nothing to do with the patriots or the family tree. Check Uncharted, you can start that from any game in the series and not be missing out on story details.

Also enough of BB. If this isn't his final chapter where he goes insane then i give up on the series ever becoming amazing again

Neither. I was being hypothetical, and making a point about the importance of story (and how it impacts gameplay) in the series.

I love MGS1.

.. I'd like to say that at least the story can't get worse then Peace Walker.. but then I remembered how they turned Grey Fox into some angsty teen Ninja in MPO.

You know it's funny how I never seem to be able to come to terms with this series of games. It's like I'm still waiting for a proper sequel to MGS3.

It's funny how Big Boss has become the main protagonist of the series, at least in the eyes of the general audience.

The hell am I doing commenting on an MGS topic?

Because no matter how you spin it Solid Snake has and will always be the TRUE villain of the Metal Gear series. I mean just look at the degree of warmongering Solid Snake spouted against his own country.

ROTFLMAO
