With Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance we now have a new line of games considered "Metal Gear" which have fuck to do with stealth, a staple of the series. I told everyone to learn how to have some fun and stop bitching, but maybe there is something to be worried about.

After all, could it be possible that in the future, people will jump into a game with the words "Metal Gear" in the title and not expect to play a stealth action game? It may have already happened. 'Soup member Dagger read the GameSpot review for Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D by Peter Brown and found this interesting paragraph within it:

"The militaristic nature of the characters and setting might lead you to believe this is an action game, but it tends to lean farther into the adventure category. You do lots of exploring and sneaking, but there are times when these elements take you too far away from the act of engagement. These moments of stagnation are Snake Eater's biggest letdown. You often find yourself (particularly in the first half of the game) wondering when you'll get to do anything other than briefly avoid detection on your way to the next cutscene."

As if we needed further proof that the mainstream gaming press does not understand the perspective of Metal Gear fans.

Is that guy even an adult? It almost looks like that review was written by a child who has only played Mario, COD and MGS SE 3D is his first game of the series.

Someone from GameSpot wrote a stupid review? No way.

They've been doing it since Metal Gear Solid in '98.

The shitty reviews in general have been there since the beginning.

Lemme pull some quotes for you. If you can't figure out why there's something wrong with these quotes, think harder.
This is why all videogame reviewers should just work hard labor.

Quote:
But does Metal Gear Solid live up to the years of hype? That really depends on your perspective.

Holy shit, it does! Mind: blown.

Quote:
To say that the length of the game is disappointing is generous at best. Even if you were to watch every single cutscene and fumble around a bit at the beginning while learning the controls, you would still finish the game in around 15 hours.

Quote:
While the game is definitely worth purchasing, you could easily rent it for a couple days and see everything that is worth seeing. Five years from now, when we look back upon Metal Gear Solid, what will we see? The game definitely is revolutionary in many ways.

Quote:

Its brevity is simply appalling.

Quote:
It's definitely worth purchasing, but don't be surprised if you suddenly get extremely angry when you finish the game the day after you brought it home.

I SPENT MY MOST LUCID WAKING HOURS ON THIS TEN-HOUR-PLUS ACTION GAME AND IN TWO DAYS I BEAT IT BECAUSE I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN FU~--

Quote:
Hideo Kojima, the game's producer, was so set on this type of cinematic experience, he should really be making movies instead of games.
While Metal Gear Solid currently stands alone, it stands as more of a work of art than as an actual game.

Their reviews are always like bouncing balls, first they praise and the game, then they bash it, repeat. That's why I hate ratings with numbers, it's just an excuse to say some bullshit and then they gave a number and a two-line review.

I could've sworn that reviewer said two or three hours, not fucking 15.

It's a rare occurrance that I will find something that honestly leaves me with nothing to say. It's cute to see this still happens.

Urgh..I hate to paint with a broad brush here. But is it just me or does it seem like reviewers are getting stupider and stupider these days? Like, I'm shaking my head more and more cause it seems like half the time these guys miss the point altogether with certain games.

I sometimes feel like a crazy person because taking cover, strafing and nailing headshots all day long seems like a boring and mindnumbing experience to me and it's the basis for most games out there. I couldn't even finish Bioshock I was so disappointed with it's same old gameplay strategy when people were hyping up up as an "transcendently artful" gaming experience.

The main reason I enjoyed Duke Nukem Forever was that it had kept the bare minimum of old-style FPS elements, especially the platforming.
