HD Collection nominated for award it will not win |
|
Does anyone still watch G4? No, it's not the same thing as Spike TV. Apparently. X-Play's The Best of 2011 will air December 14. Guess which Metal Gear title is on the list? The only one that was released this year, of course... unless you're European or Australian. Luckily though there are multiple categories and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is nominated for Best Remake/Retro Release.
The truth is though, it will still not win the award. If it actually deserves the award is a different issue (and with the amount of issues that have not yet been addressed with a patch, maybe it doesn't) but that's not why it won't win. The problem is that the category includes both "retro" and remake releases. As a result, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D among the nominees. Ocarina of Time was already considered one of the best video games ever. The 3DS remake seems to be quite popular as well although I never played it myself being that I'm not one of the six or so people who actually own a 3DS.
Then again, this brings us back to the question of what constitutes as a remake. Hideo Kojima last month claimed that Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D was in fact "a remake from scratch." Is it really? I disagree and based on what I've seen and played I would call it an enhanced port, if even that. The late astrophysicist Carl Sagan would probably take the extreme position that in order to make a remake from scratch, one must first invent the universe.

Times about a million, according to outdated sales numbers. That joke was relevant several months ago before the price drop, not so much anymore. |

Doesn't deserve it plain and simple. Way too much wrong with it and they left out a pretty hefty amount of shit. Should have been exclusive to PS3 since sales figures confirm only six people bought it on the 360. Those guys love their shooters just look at the weekly XBL charts for the past 4 years. A game about NOT shooting someone was always going to tank in sales.
If Bluepoint were focussing on just the one system like they had done with all their other games up until MGS HD, I firmly believe the results would have been far more satisfactory. Plus we wouldn't have gotten screwed on some pretty fun Snake v Monkey modes.

The MGS HD Collection is cool, yes, and the games look BEAUTIFUL in HD, but I don't think it should win because it seems like there's a lot of things missing, there are some typos (like "Gorge Sears" and "a true solider"), and some glitches too.
