Yeah, in shitty non-anamorphic laserdisc quality. I see what you're saying in terms of authorial intent but I just don't think it's a fair comparison. Kojima being fine with it obviously means he doesn't feel as though his artistic vision is being compromised, and I trust him more than I trust Lucas and I'll leave it at that.

I can confirm that on the latest KP Report they address the "super widescreen format" and are asking fans to write in about it.

So if you want the option for full screen 16:9 cutscenes like Ravi has demonstrated, write in here:
