If it's not being directly worked on by Kojima personally, they aren't going fix shit

Reminds me of pan & scan VHS releases of movies where the view is ruined by cutting of the edges and stretching it... but in reverse

Does it really matter? Honestly, I just don't see what the big deal is. Why is everyone so shocked that they are releasing aother half-assed product? Have you not been paying attention for the last 13 years?

It's things like that that turned me away from Metal Gear. The biggest news about the series is another shit collection that they threw together to milk money. The only time they did a legitimately good job was in 2007 with the Japanese 20th Anniversary box set. I have it and it is amazingly well done (even though MPO is included).

Get yourself the original PS3 with the PS2 Emotion Engine built in and enjoy the games the way they were meant to be. When played on the PS3 the games look very crisp and clear. And by doing this you will have EVERYTHING from the original games.

Kojima Productions do have builds of the games, and with Kojima playing it himself I'm sure he'll note any major oddities. That Ocelot thing is kinda fucked though, I'll just pretend he's frozen in shock. That works for me.

Fuck that after seeing the game running in 16:9 I can't go back to the PS2 versions. The potentially messed up cut scenes isn't a deal breaker to me.

Very disproportionated comment, IMHO. Call me a fanboy who just scuffs everything, KojiPro serves, but Metal Gear Solid is one of the few only gaming series, where not only the first part was good but every single game was even better than the others before. MGS3 and 4 are very good examples. And you really can't even compare the original PS2 MGS3 to the remastered one with steady 60fps (especially because of that, you can't blanch, that MGS3 is meant to be played with permanently dropping FPS), 16:9 aspect ratio, upscaled textures, and all that.
I think, while i'm a fanboy scuffing everything they serve, you are a fanboy, too who is against everything, that is new. No personal offence here, my friend.

Edit: Just as gouda said.^^

You know nothing about me. My Metal Gear collection is rivaled by very few. And the point I was making was not about the game quality, but the releases. There is always something missing or incomplete. This collection is no different. No MGS1, botched cutscenes, and who knows how many missing features. HD is not a substitute for missing features or botched presentation.

You haven't been around recently, have you? MG1 and MG2 have pretty much been confirmed and it's pretty safe to assume the majority of Substance's content will also be included. The HD looks great, MGS3 runs at a solid 60fps, MGS1 was excluded because, honestly, you can't HD the damn thing at his point and let's not kid ourselves; just because most of us already own PW (I do too), it being ported over to not just the PS3 but also the 360, and touched up to look good is a big deal.

We can bitch about the screwed up aspect ratio of the cutscenes or the low-res artwork in PW and it's fine, because that's what we're here for anyway, but this release is by no means a cop-out, or a rush-job or a botched product.

I really hope on the options menu there's a widescreen, super widescreen" on/off option, but besides cutscenes we got a pretty nice package MG,MG2;MGS2;MGS3 and PW, the gameplays looks pretty smooth and cleand and that's what matters, many people actually skips cutscenes, and we can watch them right now on delta force's channel, but what really matters is the gameplay, shame they didnt port the MGS1 pc version (like the twin snakes that was developed by a nintendo's second party mgs1 pc was ported and coded by microsoft, hey wait!!) so you can play mgs1 on a pc it even has 5.1 audio support so why not? if you don't want to do that mgs1 is on psn since 2008

Because if you try to smooth out PS1 graphics or upscale them too much, you'll end up seeing more flaws than improvements. And MGS1 level design was only ever meant to be viewed in 4:3. If you tried to go true 16:9 (no stretching) a lot of the areas would just have blacked-out sides anyway.

You can't do MGS1 in HD. Even the PC version only supported up to 1024x768 and it didn't look that great. There wasn't as much pixelization, but other other crap kept popping up (Ravi, I think, has pointed it out in an article, the snow having boxes around it being the most memorable issue).

I would like to see TTS in this package, but I can understand the crap they'd have to go through to license it from Nintendo (and probably Silicon Knights as well), so we can only hope on a remake/port on a new engine, which is something they brought up and, having played the game a few days ago, I hope they do. Much as I love it, it looks and plays rather clunky nowadays. It aged gracefully, but it doesn't hold up.

We're even quoting the same sentence.
MilkyAlien on Twitter was the first person to alert me of the news. Plenty of other people also sent me the video. I appreciate your effort nonetheless.

Yes.

While the Japanese 20th Anniversary box set was nice, the HD Collection almost has everything perfect. The gameplay visuals are going to be smooth and awesome. Bonus content such as VR Missions and Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is confirmed. Snake Eater will finally be rendered in 60fps as Kojima wanted it to be, seemingly with faster loading times for the survival menu. Ultimately, it's just the cutscenes that they half-assed on and try to pass off as "super widescreen." It sticks out like a sore thumb.

No MGS1...
The only thing I will agree with is that Metal Gear Solid should be made available for Xbox 360 owners. Other than that, rendering it in 720p would make things look strange. I know you played the PC version and laughed at how the snow looks like giant blue squares and the character's "eyes" look like someone grabbed a spoon and scooped out a chunk off everyone's face.

OK, different question then. Why so excited about the same games you already know by heart. Most of us know the dialogue word by word and can recall enemy patrol routes in our sleep. So now it will look a little sharper and in widescreen... So what? It's the same games. MPW on the PS3 should be interesting, but MGS 2 & 3? I don't get the hype.

Beeeeccccauuuseee....It's in HD? Becauuuseee, these will be the first actual MGS games in HD. I'm playing on a 47" LCD, of course I'd love to play MGS2 and 3 in 60FPS HD. Oh, and trophies!

How couldn't you be excited by this? Everything is almost perfect! Almost perfect! Plus, we just love giving Konami our money! : D

I'm excited for the same reason I get excited when one of my favorite films is being released in 1080p on Blu-ray, even if I already own it.

You can use the argument for renting the games and never playing them again and I'm pretty sure none of us abstains from replaying them. Before I stole my TV from my brother, I had the PS2 hooked up on my PC monitor; a 24'', full HD monitor, with a component cable. It looked awful. The tearing in the textures alone was painful. These were gorgeous games, it's a pity they were turned into an eyesore. Much as we like to pretend graphics don't matter, because we are the cool kids, they do.

Plus, it's nice to have them all on the same system.

Hmmm... Guess I'm over Metal Gear... Because I still don't see anything to get hyped about. But that's just me.
