PlayStation 3: 60GB models no more in North America? |
|
In an interview with David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, it is revealed that the price drop for the 60GB PlayStation 3 in North America from $599.99 to $499.99 won't last very long because apparently Sony Computer Entertainment America is just doing that to get rid of all their 60GB models.
...cause what the US are offering from the 1st of August is a USD 599 version with one game. All they're doing is taking their stock in trade that they've got at the moment of the 60GB model, marking the price down and it will all be gone by the end of July."
So what happens when all of those 60GB models are sold out? No more 60GB units for $499.99?
"In America, yes."
I should point out that the 80GB model that will replace the 60GB as the only PlayStation 3 available for sale in North America lacks the Emotion Engine that allows for full backwards compatability AND retains the $599.99 price tag. Meaning that if you DON'T want to pay $100 more for 20GB more harddrive space, a copy of Motorstorm, and the inability to play some games such as Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty... buy a 60GB model before it's too late.
But then, there's always eBay next year.

I'll end up getting a 20 GB on ebay by the end of this year. So as long as it plays PS3 games then I don't care.

It's "RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RAAAAAAAAACER!" All over again!
Talking seriously here, how long do you give the PS3 to last? I don't mean the year, I mean the entire lifespan, because 'outlook not so good'. I personally want to get a PS3, yet lack funds at the moment. It's obvious why most people on this board want a PS3, but... from the way things are looking, this shit isn't going so well.

No clue. But it doesn't matter to me now anyway. I just bought the 60GB. So in case they take the 60GB off shelves here too, i already have one.
And i bought it with alot of gift cards i had left over. That really lowered the price.

its also alot cheaper to remove the hard drive altogether. But common consumer's don't really know much about things like that.

Just their way of making money off dumbass consumers who don't know what the hell they are buying. Lol.
"Oh, here pick this new 80GB PS3 up, it lacks an emotion engine, but thats not important. Just buy it, you'll be glad you did"
Consumer: "Um...ok. Ring that bitch up!"
