Yeah, and by the time you're halfway through the game (if you've been updated the healing augmentation) you pretty much have rapid regenerative health anyways. Limb damage will be missed, but perhaps they will implement a way for the player to have their mechanical arms damaged.


Equipment fatigue? I'd like to see that.

Exactly. That is how I enjoy my games. For instance, playing through Mass Effect 2 a second time reveals a slightly flawed game that just isn't that versatile (by versatile I mean everything feels very static, such as NPCs, within the engine, outside of characters in combat) yet the first time I played I was floored by how fresh and fun it felt. I like to enjoy my games before I start to question them.


Yeah, if you enjoy them first, you can forgive all those little imperfections later.

Probably won't sound nearly as exciting as it seemed for us at the time watching it, but basically my room mate was in downtown D.C. fighting Super Mutants. There were a lot of cars around, and so he was weaving through them while avoiding rockets being fired from a Super Mutant from a high ledge. He got cornered by three mutants. At the time he was just casually playing, but then he got hit by a rocket and his legs were crippled. Then a car next to him exploded, and hurt his arm.

Suddenly you hear explosions everywhere, and he limps outside and there are no mutants, but cars that exploded (4 or 5) were scattered around the booth. It all ended when he shot the Super Mutant on the ledge, and it glitched out or something because it began to float upwards off the ledge, and then finally fell to the ground. At the time it all just felt so improvised and hilarious.


Ahhhh, Super Mutants and shit blowing up. Fallout, Fallout never changes.

Oh and you're thinking of Pulowski Preservation Shelters. They were the poor man's alternative to the vaults. But as you may have guessed, they weren't particularly effective.

No, I liked reading it -- just have to have an imagination. Seemed like it was both funny and intense.

I barely got anywhere in Fallout 3, but I remember coming across a still-standing and seemingly abandoned supermarket in the middle of the wastes, however unlikely that may be, and getting excited as hell about clearing the place out, and when I got inside a bunch of raiders crept in behind me. That just struck me as a great set-up, and I tried to role-play a bit and be stealthy and sneak around them (which actually worked). Good times.

It's really fun to get cornered or caught in a dire situation in a game that makes you think of imaginative ways to live through it. Save states ruin this for me, so I try to use them sparingly.

Does anyone here role-play in certain games sometimes? Like even MGS, just playing it like you think Snake would do it: no unnecessary kills, total stealth. I find it very enjoyable.

I did that with Morrowind. Mainly because the lack of cinematic gameplay (which is a nice break from modern RPGs) allows you to. It's not so much that I did it a lot, but when I'm encountering random peope and situations out in the open world, my imagination automatically takes over. Even if I'm not trying to roleplay, it all just plays out in my head.

Exactly. It just makes the game so much more rewarding. Staged battles can be fun, but its random encounters that end up being the most fun because of the open-ended possibilities.

I certainly wouldn't buy Dragon Age II over it, but I'd rather them wait and polish it than release it in a fragmented state.

Also, nothing against Dragon Age. The original was interesting.

I did, actually. Yes, it was nothing compared to the original, but when I played it I never complained. It was still very fun. I'd love to play it again, this time on Xbox, if I can get ahold of an original Xbox console.

So a new gameplay video of the third game in the Deus Ex series is out on Gamespot.

Whoever is playing on the video (I assume it's the narrator) is obviously not really familiar with video games, not a good sign if it IS the narrator. Considering she is the lead designer of the game.

To the actual game, what can I say, I knew it was impossible that it would hold a candle to the original Deus Ex but I am kinda disappointed.

The graphics look nice and the animations look nice but the gameplay has a lot of flaws in my eyes, just to name a few:

Regenarating health, this self explanatory. (I hope)
Unnecessary third person camera everyhwere. (I might be nitpicking here)
Lighting is awkward as hell. (Not really gameplay though)
Items/Objects that you can interact with are highlighted. (This one is really annoying me, hidden items and side paths are not hidden when they glow like that)

But who knows, some of the things might not be as bad as I think, maybe you can turn off the highlighting and third person transition.

The video did not impress me at all.

I didn't like the video, but only because of how it was displayed, not the game play itself.

It is a lot different from Deus Ex, and even Invisible War, but I like everything I see. I know a lot of complaints are stemming from things such as the regenerative health, the first-to-third person transitions, and more minor issues such as important items highlighted for emphasis. While it could be better, maybe, I don't mind any of it.

In a recent Active-Time Babble podcast a few of the team-members discussed how while making the game they had to "reinvent" the world to an extent (e.g. why do mechanically augmented humans look so different in this game than the remnants of them in the original Deus Ex?). They had to mess with the art style so that it is in the same universe but it is altogether different. It reminds me of the changes made to the world in Dragon Age II compared to Origins.

I just take that view and transfer it to the game play. Is it different? Yeah, but it's a reinvention of sorts. I might seem a tad more simple and less complex, but I'm not one to frown on a game I'm looking forward to just because it's not a Deus Ex rehash. I LOVE the original Deus Ex, and it will always be the best, but it's hardly the untouchable gem that some fanboys make it out to be. It's a game where I could throw the dead bodies of enemies at their comrades, with no consequence. It's a game with flawed melee. It's just not THAT perfect.

As long as I can play through the story while creating my own unique moments, as with the original, I'll be content and happy.

I love developer walkthroughs. They're ridiculously interesting. I wish more games had them. This one was pretty good I felt. Very basic and easy for anybody to understand. It gave me a renewed interest in the game.
