Subject description: LIVIN' ON THE EDGE, FIGHTIN' CRIME, GETTIN' HEAD, SWINGING FROM....

The thread to discuss all things Spider-Man, particularly the reboot of the film franchise.

Columbia Pictures announced on February 14th that the title of the next Spider-Man film will be The Amazing Spider-Man.

Also, they released this sexy looking thing.

Before we get tons of posts about the costume and whether or not it's final or not, I'd like to point this out.

Since reading comics is a hobby of mine I noticed that the suit seems to be inspired by the story "Spider-Man: With Great Power" which revisited and went in to detail about his days as a wrestler/performance artist before Uncle Ben was murdered. In this limited series he had a few different costumes he made for the wrestling league he was a part of. These costumes look somewhat like the one revealed for the new movie, so it's possible what we've seen so far is just his wrestling costume. That would explain the numerous changes. Of course, at the very end of this story, we get to see him creating would what become his "classic" Spider-Man costume.

With that, thoughts on the reboot so far?

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I remain cautiously optimistic. I don't really like the suit, but hey, as long as the script and acting as good I can overlook it.

They should call the movie, Spider-Man: Everyone You Love is Dead.

Seriously, though, I'm usually against live-action superhero movies because I have barely ever seen any good ones. I don't really like the actor they chose to play Peter Parker but I'll give him, and the movie, the benefit of the doubt.

Honestly, I just wish they would take all of this money and make a really good animated movie. Animation and comics get along much better than clunky live-action.

Oh, and about the Sam Raimi movies. They were not good. The game loosely based on Spider-Man 2 on the other hand, was better than the entire movie series.

The 90's Spider-Man animated series was awful as well but the more recent series, Spectacular Spider-Man, was a step in the right direction. Too bad they canned it after Disney bought Marvel Studios.

My main hopes for this movie are that they decided to throw any and all realism out the window, and that Spider-Man actually makes jokes. I think Garfield will be better than Maguire as I've seen Garfield play a decent Smartass before, all Tobey Maguire could play is a board of wood.

I remember that was one of my complaints about the Sam Raimi movies, about Spider-Man's personality.

The Spider-Man persona gave Parker confidence he didn't have as Parker, and the humour was more or less a defense mechanism. The movies never used that.

Don't get me started on Venom's personality.

I hated how they made Venom a full-fledged villain. In the comics, before even going after Spider-Man, he saved numerous innocent people, and never intended on going after Mary Jane or Aunt May.

Even worse than that, was that they made Eddie Brock a smug douchebag instead of a regular guy who's life went to hell because of one bad day, removing all sympathy from the character and any depth that he had.

Sounds more like Carnage than Venom. Actually, Topher Grace as Kleetus Cassidy wouldn't be all that bad in my opinion.

That's the Animation Age Ghetto for you.

Precisely.

His relationship with the symbiote is not explained and elaborated upon either. He says "I" instead of "We", and that makes a lot of difference. There's more to it than that, of course but just the fact that he doesn't refer to himself in plural and third person shows that they used him as filler without caring much about his character.

Oh, please. Don't even try to defend that poorly written, directed and voiced show. It makes me nostalgic but it doesn't destroy my senses.

Porrly written? Hmmmmm, perhaps in parts. Poorly directed? Well, since I make no pretensions of knowing how to direct an animated show, I have no comment. But poorly voiced?! To this day I still claim that Christopher Daniel Barnes was, and is, the best voice actor to play everybody's favorit wall crawler in anything, let alone an animated series.

You don't have to know how to direct to know if something is poorly directed-- there is no "pretension". That's a very odd excuse.

He and the guy who voiced Jonah were probably the only two good voice actors in the series, in that they made the characters their own. The show lacked focus, though, so not all the voice actors are to blame.

The 90's animated Spiderman was the best Spiderman series outside of the comics. This is even factoring the movies. And I'm not wearing my typical accessory nostalgia goggles. It may have been a shameless attempt to grasp onto the success of the phenomenal Batman Animated, but in my opinion it was a damn good try. If you dispute this, then take it away Jeff Lebowski.

Probably because it wasn't. It was a simple observation, nothing more.

I'm with you 100% on Spidey and Jonah being the cream of the crop, but as for the only two good actors... I don't think so. The others weren't phenomenal, but they were decent if nothing else. As for focus, meh, I don't see any problems. You'll have to convince me.

If that is your opinion, it is your opinion, as it is my opinion that it was not good. My opinion was questioned and I gave my reasons. I am not disputing anything, as there is reason to.

Reason to what? I am confuse.

I was using pretension to refer to a claim, not an aspiration or vanity. I don't know jack about directing an animated show, nor do I know how to recognize when or if one is being directed badly, so I made no comment. I'll just have to take your word that it's directed badly and leave it at that. That's all I was saying. I wasn't refuting your statement. I had... no comment.

That my opinion is greater than your or Ronok's opinion. It's not. It's just a different opinion.

Besides, I don't really want to argue about Spider-Man: The Animated Series of all things.

Like I said, it's odd that you would say that. It's a bit like saying that you'd eat burnt food that simply didn't taste good if you knew nothing about cooking.

You don't have to.

You would have to explain that, since I don't read Marvel. I keep up with the storylines from time to time but I've never really enjoyed them.
