Remember when I said that I really was working on a second part to my editorial "Leaving All That Crap in San Hieronymo Behind"? Well, it's ready. It's a bit funny though--this editorial started off being completely different. Maybe I'll get into what I initially sought to write about in the future.

The editorial is available under THE FEATURES section.

What does voluntarism have to do with The Boss putting her gun aside, then? Does it represent her passing the freedom to choose on to Naked Snake/Big Boss now that he had fairly beaten her, since it couldn't be that both of them had autonomy at once?

Anyway, this was a great article. I never noticed just how prevalent the theme of choice in the series as a whole was until now. It even appears in relation to you, the player. The first game has Big Boss telling you to turn off your console, MGS has pretty much everyone using Snake as a pawn, the end of MGS2 has Raiden essentially choosing to be a puppet of the Patriots through the player's actions, and so on. I mean, those are hard to miss, but they make a lot more sense in the context given by the article.

Why she went along with Operation Snake Eater is debatable. Most likely she saw it as the only way to prevent a war between the Soviet Union and the United States.

One thing I would like to add on voluntarysim;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voluntaryism#The_Voluntaryist
Quote:
Albert Jay Nock: "[A]ges of experience testify that the only way society can be improved is by the individualist method ..., that is, the method of each 'one' doing his very best to improve 'one.'" Voluntaryists believe that this is the quiet, peaceful, patient way of changing society because it concentrates on bettering the character of men and women as individuals. The voluntaryist hope is that as the individual units change, the improvement of society will take care of itself. In other words, "if one take care of the means, the end will take care of itself."
Snake does stuff like that all the time. He helps end Otacon's family curse of nuclear weapons, he helps Raiden become a better "self" (even in MGS4, when it looked like all hope was lost for him), and Naomi, who originally had a vendetta against him, ends up helping him take down Liquid Ocelot and the Patriots after gaining a new appreciation for life in MGS1.

Outside of the typo John found, was there anything else?

Also:
Quote:
Old Snake and BB (from the art of MGS4 maybe?)
Yes.
Quote:
"The Patriots" (four people) must be zero in front, BB to his right?
It was briefly in a cutscene of Guns of the Patriots but I got mine from the Art of MGS4. Who whoever said Ocelot is in the picture; he's not. Look at this person's right-eye. Nor would Ocelot be in such a picture anyways because at the time he's still in Russia spying for the Patriots.
Quote:
Ashley Wood art of Snake and Miller
Yoji Shinkawa artwork from Peace Walker shown after defeating Zeke.
Quote:
Zanzibar with BB (I guess from MGS4?)
Yes.

Or something like that.

Why she went along with Operation Snake Eater is debatable. Most likely she saw it as the only way to prevent a war between the Soviet Union and the United States.

But then she had to choose between patriotism and voluntarism? Loyalty to her country or loyalty to herself, to her ideas? Or maybe she gave up her ideas because of the times, of which she continuosly spoke about?

Also,

Repetition rite there.
