"Dead at age 39. Just like El Che. Ironic, isn't it?"

Don't you think that it was put in there as a reference to Che Guevara?

Hell, people mistake Big boss for Che!

Listen to some Miller/Amanda briefing tapes. Then you'll understand.

I actually like the references. Not sure if it was done intentionally, but not only is it a metaphor of the "big boss is teh tru hero of teh series" mentality of the fanbase but it also says a lot about certain characters such as Miller and Amanda.

I like the depth the briefing tapes add to the story as well. That metaphor for most of the MGS3 fanbase is one of the biggest reasons I like them so much.

In MGS4 I SWEAR the tombstone for him says 1930. Am I wrong? Was this the true retcon?

He was born in 1935. This makes him 29 in 1964 when Snake Eater takes place and 39 during Peace Walker.

The comparisons between Big Boss and Che Guevara are interesting. I dare say it made me a little more "open-minded" about Che; I never pictured Che to be something similar to Big Boss, although I still think Che has nothing on Big Boss. And for all I know, didn't Che fight for an ideology? I thought he fought for something Communist, at least anti-Capitalist, but supposedly he didn't want it to be a totalitarian regime like most other Communist nations back in his day were (for lack of a better example, Josef Stalin's Russia).

Big Boss, on the other hand, is a man loyal to himself, fighting for himself, and has amassed his own army full of similar-thinking people from all walks of life. He's in between the West and the East; both of them are a little pissed off about his company's strength and potential, but MSF's more than capable of defending against them.

Big Boss seems to admire Che as a soldier. That's Big Boss for you.

Miller seems to like Che for the same reason as Big Boss and for his socialist ideology despite ironically being a property owner and exploited other people for his own profit--a complaint he himself expresses towards the opposition to socialism. Miller is a backstabbing hypocrite.

Amanda confesses that she isn't a revolutionary because of socialism. It's just that the current Nicaraguan government blows. So she admires Che for taking down Batista but she isn't necessarily for socialism. Amanda wants to liberate Nicaragua but isn't sure if what it will be replaced with will necessarily be any better.

Maybe he's like Rose, and just saying that shit to make Big Boss hard and gain his trust (assuming he still works for Cipher.)

Big Boss isn't a socialist. There's no need for Miller to ironically rant about property owners.

I know that. But maybe he's just saying that so Big Boss will acknowledge Miller's Che harddon. Like "oh yeah, I not only like him for those reasons, but this too!"
