Seriously. I want to get out a real map and use huge satellite radios. Japan had the Famicom in 1984. MGS3 was filled with dumb references to the era even with flying platforms and ridiculous mechas. This just seems to be set in the future, with A-Ha or not. Anachronistic devices aside nobody so far even mentioned the whole waking up in another decade thing which is pretty poor.

My point behind MGS3 exactly; I was interested in seeing Metal Gear brought back to an earlier era, and instead the supposed era had no bearing on anything but the basic plot points.

For all we know, MGS4 reasonably takes place in 1909 if the tech in Peace Walker is any indication.

RE: Where's all the 80s shit
Kojima did say some elements of TPPs more based on the scifi films of the 80's. Much like MG2. I didn't even have problem with the new Metal Gear as I always thought it was a nod to human-like robots shit. I kinda like that twisted shit but then again I wish MGSV was a little more neon-lighty and Scarface-y and whatever else-y. And that's how I like to play it: an 80's Metal Gear scifi movie.

SCENE and all the 60's shit it included was a defining theme of MGS3 and I really fucking loved it for that. I just wished other entries in the series carried the theme.

The technology of MGSV is a thing that fucks the continuity and pisses me of but not as much as it did in Peace Walker. Fucking UFO technology "LOL Let's not use this thing EVA AGIAn!"

The only thing that even hints that it takes place in the 80's is the licensed music. Because "Friday I'm in Love" totally didn't come out in 1992.

It's an alternate universe in which man at first was unable to make sophisticated vocalizations, every country in the world disarmed their nuclear arsenal, and The Cure played that song in 1982.

Portable Hologram-projectors and laser-scanning intel? Totally eighties, bruv.

Funny thing, even the flying platforms the way they were implemented in MGS3 were more or less real for the 60s.

To be fair, Metal Gear 2 came out before the year it took place; it was a possible future setting.

All of these shittastic prequles are straight-up rewriting history like a bunch of damn posers.

Yes. But not the X-Men villains, Shagohod, whatever the fuck home-brew aluminum-foil battle rig The Boss was wearing was, and etc. Granted MGS3 was too bad for it, but Peace Walker went off the deep end, and the retarded shit in Ground Zeroes and apparently Phantom Pain justs shits all over the top-tier kit that even MGS4 was throwing around.

The main parts of the design are a high altitude flight suit with the tubes across the limbs. Then they went off the deep end and decided it should be a sneaking suit and nobody would notice the change from normal cloth to shiny plastics.

And Psycho Mantis totally wasn't Jean Grey?
Shagohod - as wacky as it looked - still looked like a one-off experimental project and wasn't bipedal, as opposed to mass-produced Rex variants starting from piss walker (and that god-awful Landkreuzer P-1974 Cocoon).

Don't forget that pretty much all the rest of the shit in MGS3 existed in real world. Timeline coherence was never MGS3 problem, uninspired shit villains was and draggy act 2 were.

Looks like strips of tin-foil down the arms & legs. Plus it's white. And Snake's had those red stripes on the arms & legs.

People in the '60s must have been retarded.

If I can find Arnold yelling "GIT DU DA CHOPPAH!!" on a ten minute loop, that'd be mine.

But yes, there's a ton of old music cassettes to find, not all necessarily '80s.
