Portable Ops had a smart twist and that's about it. Peace Walker is good till the "ending".

Though he could've come out and say "you know, this rising thing really speaks to me" so yeah.

Yeah, Peace Walker was amazing, with how you know, it starts with an interesting story about people oppressed by Western Imperialism then goes down the AI rabbit hole, barely making the two plots coexist. Really brave and affecting there.

Peace Walker's main purpose was so that Kojima could make a game his son wanted to play, and the kids were all into the Monster Hunter PSP thing, and also so he could teach the Japanese about Japan's SDF/Nuke hypocrisy with American armed presence. It was the one MGS title aimed more at the Japanese market. Hence Paz, and the J-Pop and the peace poses because of the kids and their selfies. Costa Rica and its constitutional situation were analogies for post-WWII Japan.

Yeah, I've thought about writing up a big thing about how Kojima seems to be subtly putting in criticisms of Japan's hypocrisy, but I was never really sure how to go about it. Basically, stuff like that and how Solid Snake says in MGS2 that we need to acknowledge the good and bad in our history. From what I understand, Japan still likes to teach in schools how they were victims in WW2, and I think Kojima was trying to be critical of that, but if he actually directly addressed that issue, it's the sort of thing that could actually end his career.

I'm also wondering if that stuff that Code Talker talks about concerning nations taking away the language of those they invade could be criticism of Japan, like how they treated the Koreans while they occupied their country, even forcing many Koreans to take Japanese names. Kojima seems to be a very globally aware guy, and I think a major part of these games was to educate Japanese youths of issues in the world like child soldiers and genocide, since it seems that Japanese people mostly concern themselves only with their country.

Peace Walker is easy to enjoy. If I didn't know any better I may have thought Shinta Nojiri made it... Too bad it's Canon....the issues with pw and Po are two sides of the same coin

They should just make a film out of Ghost Babel, word to word. Atleast that wouldn't piss anyone off.
