Metal Gear Rising: REVENGEANCE
NOTE THE FOLLOWING IS REGARDING A CANCELLED VERSION:
Nobody was expecting Hideo Kojima to make an appearance at Microsoft's E3
2009 press conference. When he appeared, everyone jumped up to go flood our
forums with "MGS4 4 XBOX 360 LOL LOLOL" or "KOJIMA BETRAYYED US BAAW." But wait,
it's not Metal Gear Solid 4.
It's an entirely new game. Rising. Oh, okay. For Xbox 360 though? Interesting.
Well, it'll be nice for Xbox 360 owners to be Solid Snake. Oh but Kojima
"didn't
say anything about Solid Snake!"
Metal Gear Solid: Rising will star Raiden in his ninja form.
While Kojima will still take part in the development of Rising, he will be letting a "new" development team handle a new multiplatform
game engine that will allegedly dress the game with graphics better than those
seen in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
Hopefully though, Rising won't just be better looking than Guns of the
Patriots. Instead of TACTICAL ESPIONAGE ACTION we see Lightning Bolt Action.
What. Kojima has stated that this game will be a very different experience
altogether although he did say that this game will still have stealth-action
gameplay.
One year later at E3 2010, the development team for Rising was revealed.
Interviews and discussions with Producer Shigenobu Matsuyama and Director
Mineshi Kimur explained that while there will be stealth gameplay, it won't
get into Raiden's way of cutting and slashing his way through his adventures
which take place in between the events of Sons of Liberty and Guns of the
Patriots. The trailer showed off the ability to essentially aim where you
want to cut. Raiden was shown cutting a man and a watermelon into tiny
pieces.
Rising is to be a completely new "standard" of the Metal Gear series,
different from the "Metal Gear Solid" games in gameplay, presentation and
plot. It is possible that it may span it's own series while the Metal Gear
Solid series itself is it's own contained series. That's cool and all but
why bother trying to shove what could be a fun ninja game into the Metal
Gear canon, let alone series? On an unrelated topic, money is fucking
awesome.
