Cheats
for Sony PlayStation 2
"OMG LOL KONAMI CODERZ..."
-
When the Konami logo shows up before the game even starts, quickly press UP,
UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, SQUARE, and TRIANGLE for the screen
to flash and a little bleep noise.
-
If you unlocked the intro-movie sequence, the credits that will display will
be for the actual sequence, not for the game.
"Title Screen Boredom"
-
On the title screen, hold R1 to make everything go faster, hold R2 to make
it slow-motion. Move and/or push the analogue sticks to change the background.
L1 and L2 change the shadows and pressing TRIANGLE makes a solid background.
"Snake Ate Nothing at Shadow Moses."
-
During the questionnaire, select "I Like MGS!" Your stamina meter will go
down really fucking slow.
"Jack, is That You?"
-
During the questionnaire, select "I Like MGS2!" The game will start off with
Snake wearing the disguise mask which makes him look like Raiden.
"Been There, Done That."
-
During the questionnaire, select "I Like MGS3!" then save the game. You will
unlock the EUROPEAN EXTREME difficulty, DEMO THEATER, SECRET THEATER, DUAL MODE,
and extra camouflage.
"Nice View"
-
During a cut scene, Holding TRIANGLE zooms in and the left analog stick can
move the camera around.
-
When "R1" appears, holding R1 allows you to see through Snake's eyes. You
can see some interesting things, including a close-up of Eva's cleavage. Hooray!
"Ground Control to Major Tom..."
-
Press TRIANGLE during a Radio conversation to stop it, and hold it to skip
through all of it quickly.
-
Use the right control stick on your controller to move Snake. Pushing it in
will zoom in on Snake.
"Don't Feed The Crocs"
-
You can throw Grenades and spoiled food into the mouths of Indian Gavials
that are not floating in water. You're fucked up.
"Guard Fun"
-
If you shoot that blue exclamation point above the guard's head you can actually
knock the guard out.
-
Punching a guard directly into his crotch will knock him out. Don't try that
at home, kids.
-
If you blow up Armory Sheds with TNT, guards will run out of ammunition and
food.
-
If a guard is complaining about hunger, throw rotten food at him. He will
get a stomach ache. Throwing poison will kill the guard.
-
Some guards are afraid of the Croc Head in certain areas if you make sure
they only see the head part.
-
Throwing a live snake, frog, or spider, creeps the shit outta some guards.
-
You can shoot down beehives to get the hornets pissed off and attack the guards.
-
You can plant TNT on the backs of guards.
-
You can shoot down beehives to get the hornets pissed off and attack the guards.
"Letting it All Out..."
-
During the Survival Viewer, press R1, and use the right analogue stick to
spin Snake around for a half a minute. Get back to the game and Snake will throw
up.
-
This is useful for stomach aches if Digestive Medicine is not available.
"OCELOT IS DEAD..."
-
If you take out Ocelot while he is sleeping, you will create a Time Paradox.
The Colonel will then tell you that you cannot change history.
"Snake... Naked Snake..."
-
To unlock the opening movie before the title screen, beat Virtuous Mission.
-
Like the title screen, this movie can be messed around with. Press the right
analogue stick to change the floating symbols and to change from English to Japanese,
Chinese, Russian, and Snake Bones. Pressing "R1" whispers "Snake Eater..."
"Keeps on going, and going..."
-
Eating Russian Glowcaps recharges your batteries.
-
Call Para-Medic about it after eating it for the first time for an interesting
conversation.
"The Situation is Normal, All Clear..."
-
If you interrogate some guards during an alert, hey give you a frequency to
call off the alert.
-
Frequencies always change so I can't really list them.
"Radio Music Network"
-
There are some hidden Radio frequencies in the game that allow you to listen
to music. You can get these frequencies by interrogating guards. The frequencies
are different for each difficulty.
"A Preference of Hovercrafts"
-
You can use TNT to blow up the Hind D in Bolshaya Past Base.
-
This, however, replaces the patrolling Hind in Krasnogorje Mountainside with
a patrolman in a hovercraft, which is a lot more harder to sneak past ironically.
"Your Bullets ARE Useless... But Your Shells Aren't!"
-
When The Pain is being shielded by his hornets, blast him three times with
the M37.
-
This will cause his hornets to fly off and you can shoot him now.
"Upgrade Your Hornets Nest Today!"
-
If you throw a Hornet's Nest up to where The Pain is, a bunch of his Hornets
will fly into it.
-
The hive will taste better now if you get it back after the fight with The
Pain is over.
"Open Up!"
-
The locked door on the eastern side of Graniny Gorki Lab Exterior: Outside
Wall can be opened by knocking on it and waiting for the guard to open it for
you.
"Life Must Suck For A Scientist"
-
If you wear the Scientist outfit in Graniny Gorki Lab Exterior: Inside Walls
and get caught, they will think you are an escaping scientist and will throw you
into a cell in Graniny Gorki Lab B1 East.
-
Wearing the Croc Cap with the Scientist outfit inside the Graniny Gorki Lab
will have the guards force it off of you because you look stupid.
"The Fear of Food Poisoning"
-
Throw a bunch of poisonous food items at the ground and avoid The Fear's darts.
When The Fear jumps down to eat so he can replenish his stamina bar, he most likely
will go for what you've thrown.
-
If he does eat poisonous food, his stamina will lower and he will jump down
to vomit, giving you clear shots. This is a quick way to beat him without using
a lethal weapon.
-
The area is scattered with Fly Agaric mushrooms and Poison Dart Frogs, so
use them. Yum.
"The End of The End"
-
At the Ponizovje Warehouse: Exterior, you can make a long battle short by
killing The End while he's asleep and being wheeled back into the warehouse using
the SVD. Keep on firing at him until he explodes.
-
If you do this, instead of facing The End, Sokrovenno South, North, and West
will be infested with twenty GRU soldiers.
"Venus in Cancer..."
-
You can find The End's parrot in the area behind you sitting on a stump.
-
Killing it makes The End really angry and pissed off.
-
If you capture it, call Para-Medic for a conversation.
-
Either way, the parrot will appear when you march through The Sorrow's stream.
"Aw Not This Again!"
-
If you save and quit the game while fighting The End, the game thinks you
are "sleeping" so The End drags you all the way back to the Graniny Gorki Lab.
-
Snake gets the same fate if he looses all of his stamina during the battle
as well.
"The Peaceful End of The End"
-
If you defeat The End by draining his stamina, the Mossin Nagant tranquilizer
sniper rifle will be near you after the cut scene is over.
-
If you save the game during the battle, and either wait one week or skip the
PlayStation 2's clock one week, you'll get a call and find out that The End croaked.
"The Furious Blade"
-
Using the knife against The Fury rips apart his suit, which makes him prone
to fire damage.
-
Tranquillizer darts will do the same thing.
"HEY... I like it!"
-
If you wear the mask with the Scientist Disguise, Raikov say "HEY!" and then
grab your crotch.
"RAIKOV IS DEAD..."
-
Killing Raikov doesn't create a Time Paradox. It just makes Raikov come back
naked during the march through The Sorrow's stream.
-
You cannot kill Raikov in front of guards or you'll get a "MISSION FAILURE"
(which is, basically, a "Game Over").
"Who's The Bitch Now?"
-
Wearing the full Raikov disguise allows you to do almost anything in Groznyj
Grad. For example, you can punch scientists and they'll just get all shaky and
cry,
-
You can also punch the guards and they'll either apologize, thank you, or
tell you that you're doing an excellent job.
-
Equip the Cardboard Box and get noticed. The guard who lifts the box up will
apologize. If a scientist lifts the box, he will act like he just saw God or something.
-
Calling Para-Medic while wearing the disguise brings an interesting conversation.
"You're A Tough One, My Friend..."
-
After Volgin says "Let's Get Started" during the torture sequence, hold either
L2 or R2. If you hold it until the cut scene plays, Snake takes no damage from
the torture.
"Stylish Like Ocelot"
-
With the Single Action Army, Snake can look in first-person view and move
the right-analogue stick to spin the revolver on his finger.
-
How fast you move the stick determines how fast Snake spins the revolver.
-
If you unlock the Single Action Army (see below) you can spin it during the
boss fight with Ocelot and he will get all impressed and do the same. Poser.
"Behold, the Nightmare!"
-
After you are captured and went through Volgin's torture in Groznyj Grad Torture
Room, save into a new slot. Then quit the game and load from that game slot.
-
You play in Snake's nightmare. Pressing SQUARE, TRIANGLE, and CIRCLE attacks
while X allows you to jump. Press R1 to dash.
-
After three minutes, Snake wakes up. What the fuck? Call Para-Medic and SIGINT
for some interesting conversations.
"Another Use of the Fork"
-
At Groznyk Grad Torture Room while held captive, grab the Fork in the cell
and go into the CURE menu in the Survival Menu. Use your Fork on both problems
Snake has.
-
You will get a Fake Death Pill out of this.
-
If you don't pull out the transmitter, Tikhogornyj gets infested with Ocelot
Unit soldiers.
"Johnny Apparently Steals Ciggies From Prisoners"
-
Throw back each food item your guard captor throws at you. After the third
one, a cut scene will play.
-
If you obtained the Cig Spray, you will get them.
"Bone Out!"
-
If you have missed the two chances for you to find this frequency out yourself,
using the Radio frequency 144.75 unlocks the prison door in the Groznyj Grad Torture
Room.
"The Short Sorrow"
-
Kill yourself during the march through The Sorrow's stream by using the Cigar
and touching the enemies or drowning yourself, and then pop the Revival Pill...
-
Please note that you do NOT get the Spirit camouflage uniform this way.
"Messing With A Bisexual Heart"
-
Wearing the Mask will have Volgin go on his knees and ask if it's really Raikov.
-
After you shoot him (or if you wait for a long time), Volgin will realize
that you fooled him and will get REALLY pissed off.
"Water and 'Shrooms"
-
If Volgin is under the big pipes above, you can shoot them and water will
spray all over Volgin. He's electric. Think about it.
-
Water only leaks once from those pipes, so you can only do it once.
-
Throwing a Russian Glow Cap in the room will have most of Volgin's electric
attacks directed towards them since he hates them.
-
The Glowcaps can only take so much before they disappear.
"Making A Girl Feel Real Good..."
-
When you are with Eva, tranquilize her. She will start moaning out for Snake,
The Boss, and... Fido...?
"As If You Haven't Seen a Girl in a Bikini Before..."
-
After curing Eva and safely taking her through Zaozyorje South, go to the
Survival Viewer and look at Eva under CURE. She will only be in her bikini.
"The Three Snakes"
-
During the battle with The Boss in Rokovoj Bereg, Snake can find and hunt
three white Snakes hidden. These Snakes are the Snake Solid, Snake Liquid, and
Snake Solidus. They give a lot of stamina when eaten.
"A Gifted from the Tranquilized"
-
Some bosses give you bonus camouflage:
-
Beat Ocelot without killing him to get the Animals camouflage at the beginning
of the Chyornaya Peschera Cave Branch. This camouflage keeps guns steady while
aiming.
-
Beat The Pain without killing him to get the Hornet Stripe camouflage by climbing
the ledge and leaping to the central rock island. This allows Snake to not get
attacked by bugs and leeches. He can also "tame" bees by shooting down a hive
and allowing them to surround him and he runs on a bee-rampage. Or something.
-
Beat the Fear without killing him to get Spider camouflage on the ground at
Graniny Gorki South. This is basically stealth camouflage, but it will dramatically
take away stamina. So it's kind of stupid, but whatever.
-
Hold-up The End and make him shake off Moss camouflage. He will refuse twice
but will eventually do it. This camouflage, when exposed to sunlight, gives Snake
stamina. Using the Torch might help, too...
-
Beat The Fury without killing him to get the Fire camouflage near a pile of
rubble in Groznyk Grad Underground Tunnel. This reduces damage from flames and
explosions by half, which makes the battle with The Fury in later playthroughs
REALLY fucking easy.
-
Beat Volgin without killing him to get the Cold War camouflage. This will
make Soviets not attack Snake when the USSR side is facing them (they will shoot
your back).
-
Beat The Boss without killing her to get the Snake camouflage. This keeps
Snake at a decent camouflage percentage in any environment.
"Six Shots... More Than Enough To Kill Any Man..."
-
During the dual with Ocelot in the WIG plane, picking the right Single Action
Army will unlock it when you beat and save the game.
"After the Game is Over..."
-
Beating the game once unlocks:
-
Tuxedo, AUSCOM Desert, Desert Tiger, and Flectar UNIFORMs
-
USA, Brown, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Soviet Union, Spain,
and Sweden FACEPAINTs.
-
Camera
-
Patriot with unlimited ammunition
-
All Snake vs. Monkey Missions unlocked
-
EXTREME Difficulty Mode
-
EUROPEAN EXTREME Difficulty Mode
-
DEMO THEATER
-
SECRET THEATER
-
DUAL mode
-
...and lastly, Snake will be sporting his eye patch in the title screen.
*Points to Face Paint* "Unlimited Ammo!"
-
If you beat the game under five hours, with twenty-five or less saves, seriously
injured twenty times at most, no continues, alerts, usage life medicine, or kills
(including bosses), using no "special items" you will unlock the Infinity Face
Paint. (Note: the following requirements are tested for NORMAL difficulty only).
-
Unlocking this Face Paint automatically unlocks Stealth Camouflage if you
did not unlock it already.
-
If you capture (not kill) the rare Tsuchinoko animal after the battle with
The Fear using Mousetraps, and then recapture it outside of the waterfall after
you get your items back from Eva, you will unlock the face paint as well. You
won't also get Stealth Camouflage doing it this way, though.
-
If you put it on, you will have unlimited ammunition for everything.
"The War on Kerotans"
-
In every single area of the game, a Kerotan frog-bank is hidden. Shooting
all of them unlocks the Stealth Camouflage item. There are sixty-four total.
"The Peace of Kerotans"
-
If shooting every fucking frog is ridiculous to you (it was to me), you can
get Stealth Camouflage by getting the Chameleon rank, which requires you to not
trigger ANY Alerts during the game.
"Going Bananas"
-
Get the 1st Ranking times for all five Snake vs. Monkey missions to unlock
the Banana Camouflage and Monkey Mask Item.
"EZer Than The Spider Camo"
-
If you capture and/or kill every edible thing in the game (forty-four food
items, with the Russian Rations, Instant Noodles, and Calorie Mates not counting)
and four herbs (Antidote, Serum, etc) you get the Markhor rank.
-
This unlocks the EZ Gun which is automatically available for Very Easy mode.
This gun has unlimited tranquilizer rounds, keeps Snake's footsteps silent, and
automatically gives Snake a Camouflage Index of 80%. This gun also has auto-aim
in third-person view.
"SIGNIT Say Whuuh?"
-
Equipping or wearing different things and calling up SIGINT gives you some
interesting Radio calls:
-
Camouflage Uniform: Naked, DA-KO, Tuxedo, all camouflage obtained by the bosses.
-
Camouflage Face paint: Zombie, Oyama, Kabuki.
-
Weapons: Patriot, EZ Gun, Fork.
-
Items: Cardboard Box (any type).
"Dual Rewards."
-
Get the 1st place score in all NORMAL fights in DUAL MODE to get Green FACEPAINT.
-
Get the 1st place score in all SPECIAL fights in DUAL MODE to get DPM UNIFORM.
"I Got Head-Explody!"
-
Creating an online game room with the name "HEAD SHOTS" creates a new game
mode in which you must only take headshots or else your character will explode.
"The Sexies"
-
There are two ways to unlock the option to allow the Reiko characters from
Rumble Roses to be playable characters in the game you host:
-
Get an animal ranking during an online game.
-
Accumulate fifty hours of online gameplay.
-
Accumulate fifty hours of online gameplay.
