for Sony PlayStation 2

"Title Screen Boredom"

  • If you're really bored, moving the analog sticks changes colors and stuff while pressing L2 makes a gunshot noise and flashes the screen.

"Cinematic"

  • During a cut scene, Holding R1 zooms in and the right analog stick can move the camera around.

"Codecs Are For Pussies!"

  • Pressing TRIANGLE during a Codec conversation will stop it, and pressing it again will skip through all of it quickly.
  • Use the control sticks on your controller to play around with the avatars. Pushing them in will zoom into the avatars.
  • Pressing the R buttons on your controller will give you different opinions from what Snake or Raiden are thinking. R1 is positive, R2 is negative.

"Guard Fun"

  • If you shoot that blue exclamation point above the guard's head you can actually knock the guard out.
  • Punching a guard directly into his crotch will knock him out. Don't try that at home, kids.
  • If you are really stealthy, you can actually place a C4 onto a guard's back. have fun with this.
  • If a guard won't shake his dog tag off, you can either shoot him arm with a handgun (should be silenced if other guards are nearby) shoot into the air to scare him, or aim a RGB Grenade Launcher or Stinger Missile Launcher at him.
  • Aiming a RGB Grenade Launcher or Stinger Missile launcher also makes them piss their pants.
  • In the Tanker mission, opening a locker door with a bikini poster inside will distract guards during a clearing. As for the Plant mission, Books work. No explanation needed.
  • To keep track of what Dog Tags you got, take out anything that has a "zoom" function such as a camera, a scope, or a PSG-1. Holding TRIANGLE should show the guard's name over his head if you got his dog tag. Check back on his birthday for a message. You can also use the Thermal Goggles to see if the guard has dog tags or not.
  • If you for some odd reason need to wake up a guard that is asleep, spray coolant all over his face. Sorry, but this won't work on dead guards, you dumbass.
  • In the Plant chapter, equip your B.D.U. and hide in a locker and try to get another guard to open it. He will get curious but will walk away.
  • With the B.D.U. on, do suspicious things such as knocking on walls. The guard who is suspicious will try to look through your mask.
  • With Stealth Camouflage, shooting some guards will make them blame on their own and not call for back-up!

"Specific Guard Fun"

  • In the Tanker mission, after you see the Raven doll, there's a guard hanging out in front of the edge. Punch and kick him off the ledge to make him fall on top of another enemy.
  • In the Tanker mission, when you reach Deck 2, Port, keep on walking, and run into the third room, and put your back against the wall to the right of the opening to the wall way. When the guard is near the opening, peek, and a pipe will fall, scaring the guard, and another guard. You need stealth camouflage to do this, though.
  • At the computer room in the Plant mission, one of the guards walks around and looks at bikini pictures on the computers.
  • At the Plant mission in the hostage room, with stealth camouflage, go ahead and ask the guards if they're Ames.
  • If you manage to be extra stealthy and not trigger an alert in Strut K's Perimeter, a guard from the roof will take a piss. If you get some on you, keep on calling the Colonel for his sympathy. Then call Snake for his opinion.
  • After you get released from the torture device, trigger an alert and run back and put your back against the torture device. This makes you look like your on the torture device. (and your manhood is covered with a straw from a conveniently located drink) A guard will come in to check the room. He will comment about your package.

"Keep On Hanging"

  • While hanging off a ledge, holding L2 and R2 will make you do a pull up. Doing 100 will increase your grip meter, and doing 100 more after that will make it even longer. But it won't go any longer after Level 3.
  • Falling off of a ledge and quickly pressing TRIANGLE near a ledge below to hang onto will give you 10 push-ups.

"Throwing Away The Trash"

  • There are locations where you can actually throw away unconscious or dead guards.
  • TANKER - Near the left end of the floor of the aft deck, there's a door. The camera sort of zooms out when you're near it.
  • PLANT - You can throw guards off the broken ends of connecting bridges. There's also doors like the ones from the Aft Deck in Deck D Sediment Pool, and Deck E Heliport.

"Posters"

  • On the locker with the bikini poster, put your back against it and knock on her panties. This triggers an alert!
  • Knocking on other posters makes funny noises.
  • If you go into a locker with a poster inside, pressing R1 makes you kiss them.
  • Some posters are hidden, especially in the engine room, that are very far away. You'll notice some guards using binoculars once in a while to take a peek. If you shoot them, they explode, triggering an alert.

"Uh, I didn't mean to do that, sir!"

  • During the Tanker Mission, In Deck-A, crew's quarters, the door to the far left is jammed. If Snake tries to open it, he accidentally pulls out the valve itself! He looks around, then puts it back in.
  • In Raiden's Bomb Disposal Level 4 Alternative Mission, the same door is stuck on the other side. Since it's hard to locate the actual door, go through the same door which was jammed for Snake. Raiden will be able to go through. However, turn around and try going back. Raiden will accidently pull out the valve, and act all nervous, like the Trailer of Substance showed! You can also do this in Snake's Bomb Disposal Level 4, but he does the same thing as he did in the Tanker chapter.
  • Neither of these will work if you're in Caution, Evasion, or Alert mode.

"Make that USP Shut Up"

  • After you beat the Tanker mission at least once, you can find the USP Suppressor in the crows nest near the Thermal Goggles.

"Cardboard is Fun!"

  • The Wet Box from the Tanker mission can actually be destroyed when too many enemies shoot it.
  • Right after Stillman babbles on about defusing C4, run to the CD Connecting bridge. You'll notice that there's a knocked out guard. If not, you'll definitely notice the person running in a cardboard box. Keep on shooting it, and a layer of the box will deteriorate. Call Pliskin afterwards.
  • Keep on calling Pliskin while in a cardboard box. Eventually, he'll be all obsessed about cardboard boxes. Fetish? Perhaps...

"Tanker Holds"

  • In Hold 2, keep on pressing TRIANGLE on the projector. Eventually, a girl will go on the screen. Keep on doing it again, and a second one appears. Then you get caught.
  • Look around the floor for a vent. Pressing TRIANGLE will open them. You can crawl and avoid being detected by a guard easier. In Hold 2, you can actually get caught, since one guard drops a magazine down. If you don't move any closer, he'll eventually stop looking down, but if you go into his view, you're caught.
  • When you reach Hold 3 while crawling from the vents of Hold 2, you will see a hidden area. Go to the third level. Now look behind Metal Gear RAY. Ocelot will be there, but he'll disappear. Take a picture and send it to Otacon!
  • After beating the game twice, the men in Hold #3 will not be wearing any pants. Don't worry, they're somewhat modest, and wearing boxers.

"Kodak Moments"

  • In the Tanker missions, you can send some pictures to Otacon that will make him reply in some interesting ways. You can tell if Snake took a interesting picture if you hear him say "good" or "...hmmm" or he makes a kissing noise or whatever.
  • Take a picture of the locker bikini posters
  • Take a picture of Olga. As a side-note, she gets mad and says something.
  • Take a picture of Olga's crotch when she's asleep.
  • Take a picture of the Raven doll.
  • Take a picture of the poster with the guy's chest on it.
  • Take a picture of the hidden explosive posters.
  • Take a picture of the man and woman posters together in one shot.
  • Take a picture of the mooch people.
  • Take a picture of the right screen in Hold 2. The face of Kojima appears!
  • Take a picture of the Marine in the kilt in Hold 2.
  • Take a picture of the Marines in boxers in Hold 3.
  • Take a picture of Commander Scott Dolph.

"Lice"

  • If you lie down with the sea lice, you might get them on your Rations. If you don't shake them out, they will slowly consume your rations.
  • If you beat the game with lice eating your rations, your rank is "Louse"
  • Place C4 on the lice. Blowing them up and looking in first person makes a sick mess of goo.

"Your Name Is.."

  • On the name entry screen at the beginning of the Plant mission, entering Hideo Kojima, Yuji Shinkawa, or Ken Ogasawara will show you their birthdates and stuff.
  • You cannot enter your name as a bad word. They are racist against folk named "Fuck."
  • When Raiden looks at his dog tags, zoom in. The name you used are actually inscribed into them.

"Birds"

  • You can tranquil birds. Ok, I know I'm a loser.
  • If you look into the sky in first person mode, once in a while, a seagull shits on you. How great!
  • After killing enough birds, you'll get scolded from the Colonel and Rose.
  • Killing more will actually cause the birds to attack you!
  • If you shoot down birds during the battle with Fatman, he actually trips on some.
  • Once in a while, Fatman doesn't move and makes a seagull fly down and poke his nose. Odd.

"Shaving Private Pliskin"

  • At the beginning of the Plant mission, you should see a sort of cage-like thing in the middle with an item inside of it. By hanging off the ledge, you can reach to it. It's the "Shaver." When you meet Pliskin, you give it to him and he sort of gives you an odd look. Each time you see him, his stubble grows less ad less bushy and eventually he won't have a beard at all.
  • The Shaver is only there in the Extreme and European Extreme difficulties.

"Polly Want A Cracker?!"

  • The parrot has the same luck Fortune has. Bullets can't hit him, and grenades become duds. You'll figure out how by Ocelot near the ending.
  • Shooting him too much will make him try to alert the guards.
  • Most of the things Emma says in her sleep, the parrot says.
  • Spray coolant at him.
  • Keep on asking the bird if he's Ames. He'll copy you.
  • Call the Colonel after you see the bird.

"Playing with the Hostages"

  • Why rescue them right away when you can have some fun first? Here's a list of all the fun you can do in the hostage room!
  • There's a girl, perhaps in her twenties, who closes her legs when you try to take a peek. ...hey, I wasn't the guy who made this game!
  • Keep on talking to that girl and she'll tell you her name is Jennifer. Keep on talking to her again and she'll want to go away
  • Call the Colonel while trying to look up Jennifer's dress. Then call Rose.
  • With the Directional Mic pointed at Jennifer, push the right analog stick in. Raiden will guess Jennifer's measurements.
  • Asking the old lady if she's Ames. She will piss. Steamy.
  • Beating the game five times will cause all of the hostages to be old ladies who piss.
  • You can give those damned hostages some discipline! Punch and Kick them! If you look closely, you actually hit them with the butt of your AK! Call the Colonel. He, along with Rose, will be mad. Call Rose afterwards to say you're sorry. They just don't understand...
  • ...so spray some coolant on them instead! Yes, I'm evil.
  • One of the hostages in the front of the room will have his leg sticking out, trying to trip you. If you get tripped, watch out, this makes your B.D.U. or Stealth Camouflage get unequipped.

"The Return of Johnny and his Diarrhea"

  • After finding Ames, you have to listen to a conversation between Ocelot and the leader of "Dead Cell." Instead, point your Directional Mic to the left at the bathroom. Looks like Johnny from "Metal Gear Solid" ate too many prune burritos again!
  • He can also be heard with the Directional Mic when you are giving back-up to Emma on the Strut L Oil Fence. When she reaches the second strut, point your mic at the strut. Emma meets Johnny, who still needs to go to the bathroom.

"Presidential Madness"

  • Throw shit at the electrified floor. Grenades, Magazines, whatever makes your world go around.
  • Keep on knocking on the walls near the President or make a lot of explosions. He gets fed up.

"Emma, Oh Emma..."

  • When you are at Shell 2 Core, B1 Filtration Chamber No 2 looking for Emma, one of the air pockets close to the room she is hiding at has a window. You can actually see her there.
  • Stare at Emma in first person view for a few seconds to get a curious codec message from Rosemary.
  • Keep on knocking on her locker door and shooting stuff. She's afraid.
  • Shoot Emma with a tranquil weapon, such as the M9. Then crawl all over her. While on top of her, call Snake to hear what Otacon has to say about this.
  • Emma talks in her sleep. Disturbing stuff.
  • Punch Emma and then call her on the codec. She's pissed!
  • Spray coolant at Emma.
  • Slap her ass. She likes it. Seriously, she squeals. ...why are you looking at me like that?!
  • Shoot Emma with the USP and call Snake. Keep on doing this. He eventually will not answer your calls. Great job, womanizer!
  • When Emma can't cross the bugs, call the Colonel. He will suggest you to knock her out. Call Snake and he'll get pissed.
  • Instead of spraying coolant at the bugs, just open the elevator, choke-hole Emma, and force her to cross the bugs!
  • While giving Emma support on Strut L Oil Fence, use the Directional Mic to listen to what she's saying. She will say something about Raiden's Wig. Call her up after that comment! When Snake gives back-up as well, hear what he thinks of Emma...

"Colonel Likes Asian Women"

  • During the part where the Colonel goes insane, you'll get your radar swapped with a video of of Japanese girl. If you answer any calls, it will stop. If you sit down, you see the video longer.

"Full Ammunition Before Tengu Battle"

  • After you get your equipment back from Snake in the Plant mission, keep on calling the Colonel who went insane. He'll eventually question you if you're trying to cheat your way into getting a high score by doing a trick. This will give you full ammunition for all of your weapons.

"Get Digital Camera"

  • After you beat the game, start the game over by loading the same save and you'll have the Digital Camera in your inventory for both the Plant and Tanker episodes. This enables you to save pictures onto your memory card.
  • On a side-note, you can actually get the D.G. Camera on your first game by using Box 5 on the conveyer belts in Strut E's Parcel Room in the Plant Mission, but this is unnecessary.

"The Extremes"

  • After you beat the game once, you'll unlock the Extreme and European Extreme difficulty levels.

"The Specials"

  • After you beat the game once, you'll unlock "Casting Theater" and "Boss Survival" modes which would be available in the Special section.

"Of Wigs and Bandanas"

  • You can unlock items by collecting Dog Tags. To keep your Dog Tag collection, start new games by loading from the same save file of your previous completed game. You can also use the unlockable items to help you get more dog tags.
  • Please note the numbers of dog tags may be different. It depends on your version and what-not.
  • Tanker Mission - Get around 30 dog tags for the Bandanna (unlimited ammo) and 60 dog tags to get the Stealth Camouflage. (invisibility)
  • Plant Mission - Get around 80 dog tags for the Brown Wig (unlimited ammo) 120 for Stealth Camouflage (invisibility) 160 for the Orange Wig (unlimited grip while hanging off of ledges) and all of the dog tags from the Plant for the Blue Wig (unlimited oxygen while swimming underwater)

"Sunglasses - It's all the Rage This Season!!!"

  • After completing the game twice, both Snake and Raiden will be sporting sunglasses in addition to their original costumes. This cannot be turned off unless you beat the game again.

"Never mind What I said About the Codec"

  • Here's a list of funny conversations via the codec that are not explained above. Please note that you may have to keep on calling the person.
  • TANKER -
  • At the very beginning keep on calling Otacon. Besides the useless beginners shit, you can get some useful information, including that about the Patriots.
  • Find the Pentazemin at the Aft Deck. Equip it and call Otacon. After you hear all that, take one and call him again.
  • Hide in a locker and call Otacon.
  • Stare hard at the bikini posters and then call Otacon.
  • Stare hard at the plasma television and call Otacon.
  • After you defeat Olga, keep on calling Otacon to hear why he thinks she resembles Meryl from Metal Gear Solid.
  • Shoot Olga after defeating her. You will get a call from Otacon.
  • Stare long and hard at Olga after defeating her and call Otacon.
  • Frequently ask Otacon to save your game. He will say old Chinese proverbs just like Mei Ling, except he screws them up. Eventually, Mei Ling knows bitch best recognize! Sadly, you only hear her.
  • TANKER/PLANT -
  • Doing 100 pull-ups in both the Tanker and Plant mission gets you a call. A hundred more in the Plant mission gets you another call.
  • PLANT -
  • Keep on calling Pliskin while he's asleep.
  • Shoot Pliskin while he's asleep and then call the Colonel.
  • Keep on calling Pliskin with different items equipped. On some items, he's really... weird.
  • Call the colonel when you're standing in front of a urinal in the men's bathroom.
  • Call Snake when you're in the women's bathroom. Then call Rose.
  • Crouch down and stare at a girl's toilet for a couple of minutes and then call the Colonel.
  • Keep on calling the Colonel and eventually, Rose will do research on Solid Snake. The colonel will tell you about Dead Cell.
  • Snake knows more about Dead Cell. Keep on calling him. His knowledge of Vamp's sexuality is questionable.
  • If you have a Book, equip it and call Rose. Then call Pliskin or Snake.
  • When you enter Shell 1 Core with the B.D.U. equipped, call Pliskin. Then call the Colonel. Then call Rose to apologize. (you'll see)
  • After the Harrier battle, call Snake for the lowdown of Ames and some other stuff you probably never knew.
  • In Shell 2 Core, 1F, keep on calling Snake. Otacon will go all crazy eventually.

"Unlock M9 in Snake Tales"

  • Complete a Snake Tale. Next time you play that Snake Tale by loading your save file, you start off with a M9. Depending on the Snake Tale, defeating the boss with it might give you an alternative "good" ending.
  • You can only get the M9 on Snake Tales you have already completed.

"Unlock Photograph Mode"

  • Complete Snake and Raiden's Alternative Missions.
  • Photograph Mode is only available for Snake and Raiden.

"Unlock Secret Costumes in VR Training"

  • Please note these characters are only playable in VR and Alternative missions. In fact, one costue only has one playable VR Mission.
  • NINJA RAIDEN - Clear 50% of Raiden's VR Training.
  • RAIDEN X - Clear 100% of Raiden and Ninja Raiden's VR Training.
  • PLISKIN - Clear 50% of Snake's VR Training
  • TUXEDO SNAKE - Clear 100% of Pliskin's VR Training
  • MGS SNAKE - Clear 100% of all of the other characters and costume's VR Training.

"Unlock Everything in VR Training"

  • If you have a save file from The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2, you unlock everything in VR Training, including all of the missions and all of the characters and costumes.

"Messing Around With Gurlugon"

  • At the end of Raiden's seventh Variety VR Mission, he has to fight Gurlugon. While you can defeat him the normal way, you can have some fun.
  • If you hide to the tall wall located to the left of Gurlugon which is closest to him and let him destroy it, you get Books. Place Books everywhere where Gurlugon can see and he'll die, causing the mission to be a success.
  • If you equip the B.D.U. and let Gurlugon see you, he will fall in love with Raiden and take him away. This makes the VR Mission a failure, but it's funny.
