"Title Screen Boredom"

  • You can change the title screen's colors by moving the control sticks or directional pad. This works on all three disc's title screens.

"For The Pussies..."

  • There is a new Very Easy difficulty available. The major difference is that you start off with a weapon. This weapon is the MP 5 SD, an assault rifle similar to the FA-MAS. To top it all off, you have unlimited ammunition for it.
  • If you can't beat the game in this mode, you really suck.

"Pissing Off The Asian"

  • Keep on calling Mei Ling and don't save. Eventually, she'll stop talking to you. Keep it up, and she'll stick her tongue at you. You fucking asshole!
  • If you feel very bad, call her again and save. She will forgive you.

"Hear What You Couldn't Hear Before"

  • Calling frequency 140.07 on your Codec will have you listening to the staff.
  • Unfortunately, for those who don't speak Japanese, The staff only speak in Japanese.

"These Soldiers Are Genetically... Fun!"

  • Place a C4 on their back, then blow them up!
  • Knock on a wall, place a C4, and hide. When the soldier is standing directly in front of the C4, detonate it.
  • Fire a Nikita and fly it around. The guards will stare at it until it explodes.
  • Yes, you can kill a guard while he's taking a piss.
  • If soldiers are chasing you up a stairway, place claymore mines down the steps.
  • Knock a guard down in the Furnace Blast into the boiling lava.

"Mmmm... Meryl."

  • When you are crawling through the vents in Cell A, look down at the vent next to the DARPA Chief's. You'll see Meryl working out.
  • Exit and re-enter the vent. Meryl will do different exercises. Eventually, she will only be in her panties, you perv!
  • For those who are renting, stealing, or pirating the game, or is unable to find Meryl's Codec frequency in the manual or the back of the CD Case, it's 140.15.
  • Want to see Meryl in her panties again? When you find Meryl in her disguise, she runs to the women's bathroom. If you manage to get to the last bathroom stall in under five seconds, Meryl will not have enough time to put on her pants! Oh my!
  • Stare at Meryl in first person mode. She gets quite nervous. I'd be, too.
  • Hurt Meryl. The game will not allow you to move for a minute, and she gives you the most painful slap ever.
  • When Meryl starts acting weird, first person mode will show her first person view.
  • If you hurt Meryl and quickly hide in a cardboard box, the puppy wolf-dog will pee on it. On a good note, equipping that box will make the wolves not hurt you.

"The Quick and Efficient Method of Transportation!"

  • In the back of the delivery truck, equip a cardboard box.
  • A guard will drive you someplace. The place will be designated on the box's description in item select menu.

"Psycho Mantis and Konami"

  • Have a save file of a previous Konami title on your memory card. When Psycho Mantis reads your mind, he'll mention them.

"Turning The Tables on Psycho Mantis"

  • Think Mantis is cheating? Switch controller ports while "HIDEO" displays on the screen. Then battle him!
  • Using First Person View lets you see in Mantis' perspective, which can help when you don't know where he is.

"Animal Rights Activist Campbell"

  • When you are battling Sniper Wolf with the PSG-1, kill some rats to get a message from Colonel.
  • When you are battling Vulcan Raven underground, kill some ravens to get another message from Colonel.

"Maximum Ammunition and Items"

  • To get more bang for the "OW!" complete all five torture sequences. Your equipment box will have all items and ammunition up to max.

"Which Path Will You Choose?"

  • There are two endings to Metal Gear Solid. Each of them will give you a secret item which you can use if you load the saved game. And yes, you can get both items by completing the other ending the next time you play it.
  • GOOD ENDING - Escape the prison cell WITHOUT submitting to the tortures. Ocelot will not kill Meryl and she will manage to live. At the end, Meryl will find and give you the Bandanna, which gives you unlimited ammunition when equipped.
  • BAD ENDING - Escape the prison cell WITH submitting to the tortures. Ocelot will kill Meryl. Otacon will escape with you instead, and will give you a Stealth Camouflage unit which will enable Snake to not be seen when equipped. (Bosses can still see you)

"The Only Gun You Can Use First Person Aiming With..."

  • When you are on the back of the jeep and have to fire your gun, you can hold TRIANGLE and fire while in first person mode. Aiming is a lot easier this way.

"Are You Extreme?"

  • Beating the game once unlocks Extreme Mode, which is the hardest difficulty.

"See What You Couldn't See Before"

  • Beating the game once in any difficulty except for Very Easy unlocks a First Person Mode.
  • This mode will be available under SPECIAL on the title screen.
  • To go back and forth from First Person Mode to normal mode, tap TRIANGLE twice rapidly.
  • Unfortunately for those who unlocked items, this mode requires you to beat the game AGAIN to unlock anything.

"FA-MAS Tracer Bullet Madness!"

  • If you unlocked the bandanna, fire your FA-MAS until all but three bullets in one clip remains. Then equip the bandanna. Your FA-MAS bullets will be tracer bullets, so you know where the hell you are shooting. And besides, they look cool!

"Hey Mr. Paparazzi, Come a Little Bit Closer..."

  • To get the Camera, get the Level 6 Security Card. Go back to where you blasted the wall to where Ocelot fought you. There should be another place to blow a hole through to the East of that hallway. Go through the level 6 door and you should find the Camera there.
  • The Camera will always be in your inventory if you load the same save file.
  • To unlock Photograph Mode, beat the game with the Camera in your inventory.
  • Photograph Mode is under the EXTRA menu accessible in the V.R. Disc title screen.
  • The higher your game completion rank is in V.R. Missions, the closer you can get to the models in Photograph Mode.
  • To unlock Naomi II in Photograph Mode, you need to beat the game in any difficulty except for Very Easy and Extreme.
  • To unlock Mei Ling in Photograph Mode, you need to beat the game in Extreme Mode.

"Bond vs. Spiderman vs. Red-Headed-Female-Snake"

  • Beat the game twice on the same save file. The third time you play it, Snake will change into a tuxedo in the first elevator. The ninja will also look a lot like Spiderman. And to top it all off, Meryl will be wearing Snake's outfit. Crazy.

"Grab Some Popcorn"

  • To unlock the TGS Roll B Trailer, complete 46.6% of all V.R. Missions. This means 140 Missions must be completed.
  • To unlock the E3 Trailer, complete 79.3% of all V.R. Missions. This means 235 Missions must be completed.
  • These will be accessible by selecting EXTRA on the V.R. Disc title screen and choosing Movie.

"Becoming The Ninja"

  • There are two ways to unlock Ninja Mode:
  • METHOD #1 - Beat the game in any difficulty except for Very Easy and download the save data to a PocketStation. Exchange the data to five other players within seven days and then load the V.R. Disc.
  • METHOD #2 - Beat the game under any difficulty except for Very Easy and gain the highest rank for that difficulty. That means HOUND for Easy, DOBERMAN for Normal, FOX for Hard, and BIG BOSS for Extreme. Load the V.R. Disc.
  • Ninja Mode is under Special Missions in VR Training Mode.
  • Once Ninja Mode is unlocked, the title screen shows the Ninja's mask opened up to reveal Gray Fox's face.

"This is Metal Gear RAY... Don't Tell Anybody!"

  • Completing 100% of the V.R. Missions will display a rough sketch of the Metal Gear that will be in the next Metal Gear Solid title.
  • You can only see this once, so if you want to see the picture again, save the game when you have completed all but one mission. Then you only have to complete that mission to see it.
