"What's that singin?"
|
Singing
Sand
CONTENTS:
DESCRIPTION
Any step you make on this sand creates squeaky noises.
USE IN ZANZIBAR LAND
Solid Snake encounters
this strange phenomenon in Zanzibar Land on his way to destroy the Hind D. According
to Holly White, the sand was imported from Okinawa, Japan, allowing one to assume
that it's placement as a noise-maker was intentional. For some odd reason though,
crawling over it does not create any noise. Zanzibar Land mercenaries also are
able to walk and run on it without creating any noise for some mysterious reason.
SINGING SAND THROUGH THE YEARS
Operation: Intrude N313 (1999)

Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (1990)
It looks the same as any other sand found in Zanzibar Land.

INTERESTING FACTS
-
Singing sand actually does exist. It is also known as whistling sand and
barking sand.
-
Singing sand dunes are located all over the world, although I'm not quite
sure if Okinawa really has any left. Singing sand can lose it's "voice" from
pollution, and it seems like all the beaches in Japan have become mute. Likewise,
since the sand in Zanzibar Land isn't sensitive to wind or crawling, it too
might be a sign of sand tainted by pollutants.
