DESCRIPTION

The Zanzibar Wood Owl (Zanzibar Land Owl in the MSX version) hatches from one of the eggs Snakes snags from the Zanzibar Land Bio Lab. People in Zanzibar Land apparently rely on the owl to determine when it's night time because it's nocturnal and hoots after sunset.

USE IN ZANZIBAR LAND

These orphans can hatch an owl's egg with their voices.
Solid Snake takes some eggs he finds in the Zanzibar Land Bio Lab. While one of them hatches into a really fucking annoying snake, the other ends up hatching into a Zanzibar wood owl. Going by what Johan Jacobsen (Yozev Norden in the MSX version) says, the egg, if genetically modified, had been incubated for a few days prior to Snake's arrival.

For some odd reason, the egg will only hatch into an owl after Snake talks to three orphans who are chilling in a room near an entrance blocked off by a laser fence of sorts. Once hatched, Snake can use the owl to trick the guards into shutting off the electricity to the fence. Why the guards don't just look above them and realize that the fucking sun is still out could be explained by the fact that they're wearing full head gear.

When the guards realize that they're idiots and turn it back on, all Snake has to do is pull the owl back out and wait for it to hoot so that the guards can be tricked again. Oh, how fun would it be to be a Zanzibar Land solder.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • O RLY?
  • The Zanzibar wood owl is held hostage on The 'Soup's links page to deter people from leaving the site.
  • Marionette Owl used limbs of his victims (he used to be a serial killer) as parts for his puppets, which he uses to attack people. Yeah, I know, random and non-canon, but whatever.
