Gamescom 2010: His name is Shigenobu Matsuyama!

Posted on August 18, 2010 07:57 am by Ravi Singh

Recently Konami finished their press conference at Gamescom 2010. Wither or not they were high out of their minds like they were during their E3 press conference a few months ago is yet to be seen. However, Kotaku did live blog the event and apparently, everyone's favorite video game producer decided to show up!

Shigenobu Matsuyama talks about how Metal Gear Solid: Rising is the first game he's worked on that's not an arcade title. We already knew this. Anyways, this is Shigenobu Matsuyama's first visit to Gamescom (and Germany in general) and Shigenobu Matsuyama is pretty thrilled. Shigenobu Matsuyama is working hard on your lightning bolt action game and... doesn't have anything new to tell us. Trying to show off his Kojima Productions cred, Shigenobu Matsuyama instead announces a future announcement to be made next year at Gamescom that will surprise us. Shigenobu Matsuyama is speaking at the conference this year just to let an European audience be aware of who Shigenobu Matsuyama is, and what his name is... which is Shigenobu Matsuyama.

That's all the Metal Gear related news that came out of Konami's press conference this year at Gamescom. Stay tuned next year when Shigenobu Matsuyama tells us about what Shigenobu Matsuyama has that will surprise us!

...

In case you forgot, his name is: Shigenobu Matsuyama!

Rising producer doesn't want his canon game to involve canon

Posted on August 07, 2010 07:40 am by Ravi Singh

Metal Gear Solid: Rising producer Shigenobu Matsuyama is still doing interviews, this time with GamesTM. While these interviews usually have the same shit that we already know from E3, there's usually a new tidbit or two revealed in every three interviews or "round table" discussions. Here's one from this recent interview--there's not going to be that many characters from the other Metal Gear titles:

"To answer you question about returning characters, we're probably not going to show too many characters in Rising because, since it's a new part of a series, we don't really want to refer to and dwell upon the Metal Gear saga so much.

We want newcomers to the game to come in and play freely without needing to know and understand the background of the whole Metal Gear Solid universe. We don't want to have it all tied up with the story from MGS2 or MGS4 and make it too complicated."

That's great and all, but then again, it really begs the question: why make it a canon title taking place in-between Sons of Liberty and Guns of the Patriots if you don't want it to be "tied up" and "complicated"? Why not make Rising a non-canon title, a sequel that takes place decades after Guns of the Patriots or *gasp* a completely new and original game? What's going on, guys?

New Peace Walker DLC is a reference to another Kubrick film

Posted on August 05, 2010 10:36 pm by Ravi Singh

Well now I suppose you're done pitching CQC attacks and headshots and such ultra-violence to everyone in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. It's also still too early for groody cancer awareness and you still don't like black. You're just sitting in the Korova milkbar trying to make up your rassoodocks what to do with the evening, yes? What to do, what to do... Well well well, what have we got here my brothers?

New DLC from the humble tramps at Kojima Productions allows for odin to be yet another droog from A Clockwork Orange! It's so yummy yum yum now but of course that's not all we are getting. There is the usual warble and VOCALOID downloads, and for those of you droogs who have rabbited up quite a sweat, you can just wear the droog pants for now!

Metal Gear Arcade: Look at what you're missing out on

Posted on July 30, 2010 05:28 am by Ravi Singh

Since most of you probably don't live in Japan, you're totally missing out on some glorious 3D fucking action. Sure, you can blow the dust off of your PlayStation 3, pop out that Bluray, pop in that copy of Guns of the Patriots you have (it's gotta be somewhere in the house, nobody took it, just look harder) and play some Metal Gear Online but like there's a bunch of updates to download and shit. Besides, it's not in 3D.

So yeah you're fucked. I guess they needed more testing data so they're having yet another test play for Metal Gear Arcade today and tomorrow at Adores Shibuya and Round One Yokoyama Station West in Japan. People who participate get like 2,000 points in MGO on PS3 and something regarding the Battle Suit with helmet from Peace Walker. Anyways what you might be interested are these high resolution screenshots from the game!

Of course the game should look slightly different. After all, you aren't experiencing it in 3D. I mean, they delayed this title in order to compete with Avatar. I wonder how James Cameron would feel. Anyways, have fun jerking off to all of the other screenshots at the source link.

Comic-Con: Front Mission Evolved X MGS = ...really?

Posted on July 25, 2010 06:04 am by Ravi Singh

Remember back during the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Completion Event when it was announced that Kojima Productions and Square-Enix were not only collaborating on action figures for Peace Walker but also an in-game crossover in Square-Enix's mech combat game Front Mission Evolved? Well straight from Comic-Con comes a new trailer that reveals what we're going to see! Will see be able to use parts from the Chrysalis on the mechs, also known as Wanzers? Will we be able to attach a rail gun and wipe out enemies? Will we be able to make our Wanzers have battle cries via use of Peace Walker's VOCALOID system? There's so many possibilities with the Metal Gear series! Show us what you got for us, guys!

Wait, that's it?

Wow. I mean it's not horrible it's just so... anticlimactic? Peace Walker has collaborations with Famitsu magazine, Monster Hunter, and fucking Mountain Dew. Here is something remotely relevant with the Metal Gear series and even Peace Walker and all we get are... stickers. I'm really at a loss at what to say. So I'll just steal what Gouda Jouji wrote over at our affiliate Kojima Productions Network:

"Cool stickers bro."

You can watch the trailer for yourself but outside of trying to make a big deal out of stickers, it's just a trailer for Front Mission Evolved. Zone of the Enders fan might cry a little.
