Comic-Con: Raidens win Kojima's cosplay contest

Posted on July 24, 2010 07:23 pm by Ravi Singh

Hideo Kojima decided to stop by San Diego Comic-Con since everyone now knows that Comic-Con has more to do with these kinds of comics than those kinds of comics these days despite what Comic-Con International claims. At the nearby San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina Mr. Kojima held a cosplay contest as well as yet another autograph session. Well according to the official Kojima Productions Twitter, here are your first and second prize winners of said contest:

Son, you've got a way to fall
They'll tell you where to go
But they won't know

Peace Walker DLC goes pink. Let's save the ta-tas!

Posted on July 08, 2010 11:44 am by Ravi Singh

Sick of being black? Well now you can be pink thanks to the new DLC made available for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Breast Cancer Month is officially in October, but Big Boss brings it early to MSF--with or without his shirt on. Instead of teaching the basics of CQC, he can inform women how to check for bumps. Prevention is the best medicine. Well, until they find a cure to cancer, that is.

There's some other shit too. A new AI voice for the Chrysalis and a song or some shit. Seriously though, who the fuck cares? Big Boss is going pink for free. Together, we can save the ta-tas!

Kojima working on MGS5 or something new, and Peace Walker 2

Posted on July 07, 2010 05:39 pm by Ravi Singh

Some of you might have some hope in Hideo Kojima working on something other than Metal Gear. He is hardly involved with Rising and has recently stated that he might have little involvement with Snake Eater 3D. He has been hinting at some other project for home consoles, talking about how he might have to leave the gaming industry if it fails. After E3 though, he's been a bit conflicted regarding what to do with the title:

"I only have two choices for what to make: MGS5, or an original game."

But wait, isn't Peace Walker supposed to be... oh fuck it. Still, what might make Kojima leave the entire industry if things don't go well? Something fucking great that the mainstream audience will spit venom at? No, just the usual business risks.

"...it’ll definitely be a console game, and it’ll be the sort of big-budget project where I’m dead if we screw it up."

Dead? Sounds like death threats. Even if it is an original title, seemingly sparring everyone from yet another unnecessary installment to the bloated Metal Gear canon, it's not over yet:

Kojima: "The next thing after Peace Walker is something great. It's a revolution."
Famitsu: "A revolution!? Is this in terms of gameplay?"
Kojima: "In terms of gameplay. We'll be doing things that we couldn't do in Peace Walker."
Famitsu: "What can you do?"
Kojima: "You know, don't you?" (laughs)
Famitsu: "No no -- I don't know. What is the time period of the game?"
Kojima: (explosive laughter)

That's right. A fucking sequel to the just-released Peace Walker is already planned. Here's hoping it's called Ironic Contra and takes place in the 1980's. Fuck.

So what the fuck is the deal with Snake Eater 3D?

Posted on July 07, 2010 02:45 pm by Ravi Singh

Kojima Productions has recently asked for your input on the somewhat announced and kind-of-shown-off Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D. Well, Konami has other ideas. Similar to quickly announcing a Peace Walker demo for Tokyo Game Show last year immediately after Kojima saying he can't promise one, or telling the press that Kojima will be working on a post-MGS4 Metal Gear title immediately after Kojima said he was just thinking about it... Konami has told Eurogamer that Snake Eater 3D will be "a full product."

As distrustful as Konami can be, let's go over the other similar instances. Hideo Kojima said he couldn't promise a new demo for Peace Walker to be available at TGS 2009 while Konami pretty much did. TGS 2009 came around and a demo was indeed available. Going back to the speculation of the next Metal Gear title after Guns of the Patriots, Hideo Kojima wasn't sure if he was going to be involved with the next title or not. Konami essentially said that Mr. Kojima would be. Indeed, not only was Hideo Kojima heavily involved with Peace Walker--he was probably more involved with its development than any other Metal Gear title before it.

So it shouldn't be a surprise when you read this quote from Hideo Kojima in a recent interview with Famitsu, only a few sentences after saying that it's just a "test" or whatever the fuck:

"We haven’t settled on the details yet, but I’d like to get CO-OPS and some of the other things we did in Peace Walker into this game as well. We can’t change MGS3's story, but we are thinking about CO-OPS and other things we can use the 3D technology for."

There may be an explanation for what could be taken as being deceptive about the development of a 3D Snake Eater, though. Earlier in the same interview, Kojima reveals that Nintendo had him by the balls... legally speaking:

"It was a top-secret project — I had a non-disclosure agreement signed with Nintendo, so I couldn’t even tell [Famitsu] about it."

So okay, Snake Eater 3D is 99% likely to happen. Glad some of you can get any future disappointment out of the fucking way. Now we gotta wonder if a Snake Eater remake to the 3DS will actually be good or not. Well besides all of the details already mentioned, there are a few other things we know about Snake Eater 3D. For starters, it probably won't be a launch title. It also has greatly improved character models compared to the PS2 version. More importantly, and similar to The Twin Snakes in a way, Hideo Kojima might not be too involved with the final project.

"I did handle direction work on the E3 demo, but where I go from here hasn’t been decided yet."

What a thrill...
