Portable Ops sequel information leaked!

Posted on April 01, 2007 08:08 am

Well, kind of.

Apparently, Kojima Productions were going to have Konami publish a press release at the GO3 Electronic Entertainment Expo 2007 yesterday, but this never happened. It never got released because the plan got scrapped all together by Kojima Productions.

An insider (that I and some others at MGS:TUS managed to verify as authentic) who wishes to remain anonymous gave me and some others a copy of the press release, but made us promise not to post it. I'm not one to break promises, so I'm not going to post it. Besides some logos, the release date of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots being established (hint: it's exactly what it says at the end of the E3 2006 trailer) with some mention of a new trailer (I guess we were supposed to see this at GO3?) and some old screenshots, there wasn't much new that would be of any importance... besides this tiny little bit:
Quote:
Metal Gear Solid: Remote Ops
Release date: Q4 2008
Platform: Wii

In 2001 players experienced the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty through the eyes of newcomer Raiden. Now events of the game will unfold through Solid Snake's eyes in this spiritual sequel to MGS: Portable Ops. Similar to Portable Ops, players will control Solid Snake as well as recruit and use their own handpicked squadron. In addition to a full-length single player mode illustrated by Ashley Wood and the multiplayer modes seen in previous titles, the game features unique gameplay elements using the Wii system's unique remote and nunchuck controller.
From what I'm guessing, not only is this "Portable Ops 2" but also the Wii game Kojima Productions is apparently working on and "Digital Graphic Novel 2" all in one.

I'm sure a lot of PSP owners are pissed. I'm pissed because this contradicts Kojima's "Raiden is needed in MGS2" stance. I'm also wondering if you can recruit Miis as soldiers.

EDIT:
Someone sent me a screen shot of it!

Oh wow. Hahahahaha! Funny guy.

EDIT x2: Ok, with all laughs aside from that screenshot, here's the logo from the press release. I wasn't going to post it but TUS did, so whatever. They decided that if they put the logo over something, it wouldn't be directly from the press release. Good thinking Pavel. I hope Konami doesn't try to fuck us in the ass like they did when we released Snake Eater screenshots a week before IGN did:

EDIT x3: Konami's pissed. Look what Marc Franklin sent me:

Fuck you Konami and your professional looking PDF file. I'm keeping it up and I won't call you. The last time I got sent one of these, it was over a couple of Snake Eaer screenshots. When I took them down, they were on IGN a couple of days later. So fuck you.

EDIT x4: Someone dugg this: http://digg.com/gaming_news/Metal_Gear_Solid_Portable_Ops_sequel_info_leaked

Let's piss Konami off more. Digg it!

EDIT x5: YES for the last time the screenshot above is obviously a fake that someone sent in. We thought people would take that as a joke.

EDIT x6: Yes, this was an April Fools Joke. It also had a point. How far will Konami keep going to churn out Metal Gear games? How are fans reactions? I learned a lot and maybe I'll write an article about it. Maybe.

EDIT x7: You can read our PR libertarian/Hoax Nazi, Cord's, overview of this whole incident here. I will still write my own article about the subject.

EDIT x8: Read my article covering this entire April Fool's Joke here.
