Hideo Kojima claims full responsibility for Peace Walker

Posted on January 23, 2010 10:16 pm

In an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine UK, Hideo Kojima stated that nearly everything in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was his idea. While he mentioned things like "Co-op Ring, Love Box - the names and the ideas," he also mentioned "overall game design" which probably includes all of the things I've discussed in this article such as the absence of the ability to crawl.

This means that Peace Walker is pretty much a test to see if Hideo Kojima really does need a break already. If the game's good, then our confidence in Mr. Kojima will clearly rise enough to feel quite comfortable with his involvement in Metal Gear Solid: Rising. If not, then you know who to blame as the man has pretty much taken full responsibility for the game. This is crucial because fans often look at the involvement from people other than Hideo Kojima as a reason for Portable Ops being shit and Guns of the Patriots having a weak plot despite the truth being that he was cool with Portable Ops and took a major role in Guns of the Patriots.

It's kind of tragic because just a few years ago this news alone would make me feel highly impatient for the game's release. Now it's just an interesting tidbit and prevents fans throwing their anger at the typical scapegoat even though their involvement is actually highly overestimated. To be fair though, the overestimation usually stems from the way they are portrayed as by the gaming press.

In other news, not only is Peace Walker pretty much Portable Ops 2, but Kojima states in the same interview that it would have been Metal Gear Solid 5 if it wasn't developed on the PSP. Carry on folks, nothing to see here...
