MGS4 - Boxart revealed; Sony of Europa just doesn't get it

Posted on February 27, 2008 06:24 am

If you weren't here for the bukkake of news yesterday regarding Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots' release date, it's PlayStation 3 bundle, and the Metal Gear Online beta preorder special, well, you may just want to before scrolling down.

alex67 from MGS:TUS' forums provided what seems to be yet another screen capture from the legendary phantom issue of Famitsu that apparently nobody seems to be able to get ahold of:

Even if it's not Famitsu (EDIT: it's not), it's the same artwork in question, and I seriously think that the suspected troll is Yoji Shinkawa who was, in reality, not trolling, but rather being norly 100% srs. Anyways, it seems like the Limited Edition is a black box with the game and some other disc that will not be worth the $10 extra you're going to pay for it, but so what? The PlayStation 3 bundle is also shown--with a question mark over the PlayStation 3 unit, which either means that the PlayStation 3 heard the game make a noise, or that it might look different. Whatever it is, it will be revealed March 21.

Keep in mind that shit like this is always subject to change. Even if it doesn't, the North American and European releases may differ in packaging. Personally, I like the Japanese packaging and hope what I end up getting is similar in style.

More scans from whatever the source is are available at the source link below. With yesterday's delightful news from Sony, and this leak, one has to wonder, what more will we hear? Oh my god, this just in: MGS4 CONFIRMED FOR XBAWKS!

UPDATE (4:31 AM PST): The 80GB PlayStation 3 bundle is as shown:

Actually, that's Kotaku fucking around. I, did, however, receive this image from someone who doesn't want their identity revealed which has shown up quite a few times already:

I'm a little skeptical since I was expecting the box to be all like "OMG THIS IS A FUCKING PS3 WITH MGS4 AND A RUMBLIN CONTROLLAH 4 $499 FUCKING BUY ME NOW!" Then again, I wasn't even expecting a bundle to be released in North America...

Speaking of bundle, Sony of Europe is fucking dumb. They apparently have "no plans" to essentially make the PlayStation 3 desirable as the $499 80GB bundle does. They also have no plans in regards to the Metal Gear Online beta test. Luckily, their attempt to screw you can fail if you convince a friend here in North America to preorder a copy for $5 and give you whatever you need to confirm your preorder on the North American PSN site.
